Unless you oc the P4 1.8 PC800 to 2.4B @ PC1066 speeds, then the XP will spank it, but if u reach 2.4B, AMD won't be able to tocuh it.

I don't think you need to reach 2.4 GHz at all to beat that 2000+, especially not with RDRAM. 2.0 GHz - 2.2 GHz should easily suffice.

how true...........according Sandra an athlon XP2000 runs faster than my 1.8A @ 2268MHZ......this is on a i845G board with samsung 512mb pc2700, and radeon 8500LE 128mb. Thought I could get it to go faster with new HSF but still cant run 2.4B rock stable, it crashes in a min or 2 after boot up.:( Using Therlmaright AX478 with Zalman 28CFM/20DBA fan w/AS3 btw.

Well, a 2100+ beats a 2.0A (with PC800), and a 2200+ beats the 2.26 with PC800. A 2000+ would be close to a 2.0A speeds. So, anyuway

I'd def go with Athlon.

Cheaper, plus they are real good for workstation type work.

I'm also a fan of the under dog....

AMD all the way!

get some PC300/3200 corsair DDr and a good overclocking P4 mobo like the Epox 4g4a or even a sis645DX board and overclock the P4 as far as you can go and you'll beat any Athlon out there right now probably.

Or if you're into saving money AMD can't be beat. I'm really liking my new intel system though

Looking at ram prices (especially the higher end DDR), they arent that far off of Rambus, sometimes Rambus is even cheaper!
