Kyle:
Good gossip abounds. We have now gotten information from a couple of sources (which kick it up to rumor status worthy of postage) that confirm 1.8GHz samples of AMD Palominos / Athlon4s / AthlonXPs (whatever the hell they will call them) are going into test systems. This is a worthy jump from the current 1.4GHz flagship that can outperform the Pentium4 at 2GHz in specific applications.

Wow... Seeing as how it's tight between the 1.2GHz Athlon MP and the 1.8GHz P4, that 1.8GHz Palomino should lay the smackdown all over Intel :)

I would be surprised to see the Palomino actually running at 1.8Ghz anytime soon. What they're talking about is a PR rating of 1.8Ghz while the chip runs at 1.53Ghz. It's not surprising that it may beat a 2.0Ghz P4 considering the 1.4Ghz (actual) can beat or hang with the 2.0Ghz part...

I would bet they are talking about PR ratings.

Like was said before the 1.53 will be the 1800+. The current core at 1.4 is close to what a 2.0G P4 so I would expect the new core with the 1.53 to be able to hang with the P4.

Yeah, I bet they are the new PR ratings. I'm looking for a 1.6 pally before I upgrade, but I might have to settle for 1.53 and overclock my way to 1.6:)

That's probably the case - PR rating of 1.8GHz.

By the way, has anyone actually received & using 1.4GHz Palominos?

I'd be extremely surprised to see a 1.8Ghz Tbird seeing that 1.533 GHz has been a whole arriving. A PR rating sounds most likely

Oh well in 6-8 weeks we can see how much 'Seti Smack' a 2.2Ghz P4 Northwood can lay down

<< A PR rating sounds most likely >>

That sounds like my next chip....but if memory recalls AMD said they weren't going to go with a PR rating on their chips....they were putting alot of money into ads to prove to the "common folk" that the mHz/gHz doesn't make a difference....maybe they decided otherwise
