I am going to purchase a new computer and am very interested with
the o/c ing of the 1.7m and the 1.8c1 I am most likely going to purchase a gigabyte GA-8INXP and 2 sticks of corsair xms 3500
also i will be using watercooling. Which will most likely perform better

from recent developments id go with 1.7m to get you high fsb's
but for higher clock speeds, maybe 1.8a c1 wouldbe better choice....

personally id go wtih 1.7m looking at thugsrock and others ;)

thanks
but another thing do you know if the gigabyte 8INXP can support the high fsb?
on the specifications page it only says supports fsb adjustments up to 200 not above

I personally would be cautious about recommending anything at this point, the m-chips have not been tested fully, and only on a limited number of boards/chipsets.

hehe ~ i appriciate the faith but i have to agree with Mikki here, P4m needs more time and testing.

i do believe quite a few more P4m reviews will be hitting these forums this coming week....

I think the jury is still out on this question, but I listed some food for thought.

Not that I have been watching the 1.7m testing from Mikki or anything. :)

Comparing some numbers from my old tests on my 1.8A (B0-Stepping by the way) with the new one's that Mikki is posting. Good ole copy paste into Word Doc using Thugsrook Format.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Memory . . . . . . . CPU . . . . . . . Multi-Media . . . . . vcore . . . . Mem Mhz
2691mhz 150fsb = . . . 2997 / 2994 . . 5161 / 3283 . . 10550 / 13243 . . .1.65v . . . . 400mhz . . . . 1.8A
2639mhz 220fsb = . . . 3254 / 3158 . . 4951 / 3214 . . . 10336 / 12929 . . 1.63v . . . . 440mhz . . . . 1.7m

I am using a BD7II-Raid Board, Samsung PC2700 @ 3:4 ratio, ATI AIW 8500 for comparison.

Looks to me like it is fairly close except for memory of course. DDR400 is all I can get out of my Samsung.

yep the jury is still out ~ we need to see just how far these chips can go.
right now memory is THE limitation.

Mikki is very happy since he got more performance then his 1.6A @ 163fsb offered.
i on the other hand have to beat my 2.26b @ 167fsb...
and pastorjay has to beat his 2.4b @ 167fsb.
both of us will be using XMS3500 memory ~ me on p4b533 and Pastorjay on his giga granite bay.

we really need to get these puppies to 233+fsb or the P4m will be a bust for mainstream overclocking.

expect both reviews this week...

:D

You've got an interesting question there, Boyne7, one which I have been pondering myself lately. I've got a C1 1.8A @2808MHz with default Vcore; I will be switching to a dual-channel DDR mobo soon, just waiting for the contenders to all get into the ring at the same time;). My situation is that I've got more juice left in my cpu (I hope:Q), should do the 3GHz dance, but the mem bandwidth on a P4m @220+ fsb is pretty staggering! If I do go P4m, then I'll have to upgrade my RAM, too, to XMS3500, so the cost/hassle of my upgrade may be for a negligible performance boost:(.

. . .but then again, if I don't do the upgrade I have to live with myself for letting THUGSROOK, Mikki, etc., go into uncharted territory without me:p. Can't really put a dollar value on that, can I;)?

Looking at the stuff posted by Mikki, I would say go for the 1.8A. It's cheaper, and will perform about as well, but you won't need such high FSB, so if your board limits to 200 (someone said it didn't), go for the P1.8a.

I was wrong about the 8INXP being limited to 200 fsb. That is what the manual says. But my board actually goes up to 355!!! SO that will not limit anything.
