1.6ghz/512 cache vs. 1.7ghz/256 cache (P4 Northwoods)

Given the exact same mobo/memory/etc. Basically I have 2 computers, and I'm gonna keep one. They were free, the 1.6 I got from work, the 1.7 I got from the PC recycle bin in our building (high rise).

I'm thinking they end up being a wash. In which case I'll keep the 1.6 since it also runs @ 1.5v instead of 1.75v as marked on the chip.

edit: and no it's not my main. this is just a spare comp to mess with. will prolly give it to my son to use (6yrs old).

yup the overclock nicely to 2.1ghz.

Yep, keep the 1.6, the 1.7 with 256k cache is a williamette, they are slower and don't overclock as well. I've had 3 1.6ghz northwoods, and they all hit 2.1ghz with ease, the mobile one even hit 2.7ghz.

10-4. Been a while since I've done anything Intel. Appreciate the info. So the 1.7 and D845HV mobo will be going in to a box that I got (also for free) that has a P3-1ghz and then promptly hitting craigslist

1.6A is faster than 1.7 due to the cache size. Plus it runs cooler, at a lower voltage, and overclocks better. Keep the 1.6.
