1.6a to 2.4 - 3dMark Vertex Shader Fail - CPU, Mem, or Video?

Hi Guys,

I've had my new 1.6/2.4 rig setup for a few weeks now. It runs relatively stable . . . a whole day of Sandra burn-in (memory and CPU tests) without a crash, almost an hour of Prime95 without an error, however whenever I run 3dMark2001 SE it always fails the Vertex Shader test and crashes.

I have a Abit BG-7 Mobo, P4 1.6a, Radeon AIW, and Samsung PC2700. Any ideas what the problem is? Or anyone else have this problem?

Thanks

Do you have the latest driver?
Do you have the latest bios?
Do you have the latest Intel Application Accelerator?
Do you have the latest Intel Inf Drivers?

Do you have the latest video driver?
what about bios?
and Intel Application Accelerator? if you are using intel chipset mb
and intel inf drivers?
also...did you get directX 8.1?

You have not really proved stability yet...what vcore...

sandra is a piss poor test...I have seen it pass systems all day long and fail prime quick and cause errors in other things....

prime95 for almost an hour is no where near stability testing....

Bump vcore up .025v and try again...I have heard of ppl failing just on this test and bumping vcore and having it work...

Could be a host of things you mentioned...Lets nail down stability of cpu first though!!!!

Vertex failure puts the failure squarely on the video card. If you are overclocking make sure that your agp bus is not out of spec. It's most likely a problem with your video drivers.

good point...I forgot the 2.4ghz would mean a 150fsb though it wouldn't be too far out of spec....

I have seen in 2 threads in the last couple days where ppl solved this problem with vcore...can't hurt to try...

Cpu instability can be vital as well...

hmmm.... thanks guys for the tips

I installed all of the intel drivers off of the Abit BG-7 CD. Are these the newest? If not can someone give me a url to dl the new ones.

Right now my v-core is set at +5%. So you guys think I should up it to +10%?? What kind of temps should I be expecting?

Thanks again

Guys ... I have the latest ATI Catalyst drivers from the ATI WebSite (June 13 I believe). You know what's weird tho . . . I always fail the Vertex Shader Test when running the full benchmark suite . . . however I the only test I run is the vertex shader (this test alone) it runs fine!!???

Also re: AGP BUS . . . since I have a BG-7 I've locked the AGP/PCI bus speeds at 66/33.

it's a driver problem...you have play around with it then...try reinstalling everything...the drive, the application...
ATI is also known of it's driver problems...plus i just read that they are charging for customer service...by the minutes
good luck...now i am definitely staying with nvidia

Case temps? Is the Radeon overclocked?

Duvie, I'll try the v-core boost in an hour when I get home . . . I'm still at work 🙁

Thanks for all the tips guyz

PS: So no one got back to me on the INF thing . . . are the BG-7 CD's INF's the most recent? I guess I will do this

1) Try V-Core
2) Uninstall ATI Drivers
3) Reinstall ATI Drivers
4) Install latest Intel INF
5) Install latest Intel Accelerator

OK didn't have time to re-install and of the INF/Drivers last nite. However, I did try upping the voltage to 10% and running Prime 95. Here are my temps when doing so:

60C/141F sometimes going to 63C. Is this way too hot?? I'm going to try to drop the voltage back down to 5% and reinstall INF/Drivers tonite to see if there is a difference. My voltages even when running Prime seem to stay steady. So I think the PS is ok.

Reinstalled the ATI Catalyst Drivers and the newest version of Intel's INF and

IT WORKS . . . passes the Vertex Shader Test

3DMARK2001SE Score of 3639...

weak score i kno but I'm just running a AIW Radeon. I guess a video card upgrade is in order in the near future.

Thanks Everyone!
