1.6a or amd 1700+?????

Approx. 8 seconds on my non-overclocked 1700+ with a 192kbps MP3 playing and 3 IE browser windows open.

LOL, that's a nifty new benchmark!

And to answer the original post, I'd go for the 1.6A. More future-proof in that you can overclock to 2.1ghz+ should it ever feel slower. Although I do have to warn you my stock 1.6A was actually slower than my 1.4ghz Tbird in 3dmark using the same Ti 4400 card.
