hi,
if you are willing to overclock, get the 1.6a system. if not, get the amd system. i have a 1.6a @ 2.13 and an xp1900+. the 1.6a is way faster in the benches.
my advice, take the small risk of a bad overclocker and get the 1.6a and overclock, you'll be happy.
hope this helps

Try this simple, real world benchmark on both your XP1900+ and your NW:

Open up the windows calculator. Show scientific mode if not already done. :) Key in 25,000 factorial. This is 25,000 and hit the n! key. Time how long both processors take to complete the task! :)

Cheers!

If you are not going to overclock get the Athlon XP. If you plan on overclocking then get the 1.6a.

I tested this on a intel dx486 and my p3 600 mhz, both took less than 1 second!

Interesting way to "bench" a chip. For those struggling, just enter 25,000 and press the n! key. This is only on the scientific calculator, the basic is well...basic.

Time 6 seconds on XP 1800+ OC to 1900+.

:) Hey Sharkeeper did exactly as you suggested made sure I was in scientific mode in calculator keyed in 25000 and hit n key as soon as i hi the n key i have my answer "10. with about 38 numbers after the decimal point" in literally milliseconds. as SOON as I hit the n key the answer is there.:D

Why not get a 1900+ cause it will still cost less than the config that you have listed there. If you're not overclocking, definitely go with the AMD counterpart whereas the P4 will overclock higher so now people are getting huge speeds from their P4's.

Heh My calculator here at work will not let me do a factorial larger than 170(and with that I get an instant answer), with 250, I get a "Result is too large" answer.
