how is this board with a 1.6a? does it o'c well and does it have any known problems? Also about the ram, not familiar but it does use DDR ram right? and is Rdram as good or better than ddr ram? thanks!

I have this combo and I'm at 2.3ghz right now. It uses DDR ram and can run PC2700 ram (my memory is @ 180 mhz). Sisoft benchmarks says I'm running a tad bit faster than stock Rdram. But the consensus says that overclocked Rdram is faster then PC2700 DDR ram.

(shrug) It's plenty fast for me. A 1.6a+P4S333+PC2700 ram is a no brainer overclock for great performance. Your almost guaranteed 2.1ghz, and with a bit of luck you'll get 2.4ghz.

I got 2133 @1.575V and 2.23Ghz@1.675V on this mobo with the intel hsf so with a better hsf you can do 2.3 or 2.4 or even more.

<< does it have any known problems >>

Yes you shouldn't use Kingston ram with this mobo and I heard that there are some problems with the usb but I can't confirm this since I didn't use any usb device on this mobo.
For more info you can read here

I accomplished my first ever overclock with this combo, (the first time I had the intestinal fortitude to try it 🙂). I am only running at 1.792?? 112x16, for now, I don't have any extra cooling in my case, yet, so I'm a little reluctant to go higher.

just some more data,
i've got this combo with 1 x 512mb crucial stick
i'm running stable at default voltages at 2.13ghz (133 fsb)
temps are 40c at idle and 48c when running prime95 for 3 days with stock hsf.
it's already plenty fast for me but i might start to goose it up a bit when i get some free time to play.
this combo is faster/as fast as my xp1900+ setup

Brilliant combo for price/performance.
Mine is at 2.208G at 1.525V
PC2100 DDR running at 4:5 (138FSB) 2 3 3 6 2T
So PC2100 is running asynch at 173 (138/4*5).

I have 2 of the p4s333 systems, both with Malay 1.6A:

The RAM support is awesome in terms of you can use all the slots. I have 1.5GB using three 512MB. Kick ass, it is hard to find DDR motherboard to support that. ((I'm using Crucial)). Personally I think that PC2100 is all you need, especially with a 1.6A...

The only real problem I have with the board: It turns out the PS2 mouse port may have a problem At times the whole system will pause for 5 seconds... for me, about every 3 or 4 hours. All IRQ's halt.. .music stops, mouse stops, etc. After 10 seconds it resumes. On Usenet I found out that others had seen this too and in all cases a PS2 mouse was being used. A USB mouse would solve the problem... I am still using PS2 - it doesn't cause crashes, but it isn't fun...

Great board. Latest BIOS works fine for me too.

I can get to 150Mhz FSB on both my systems... but if it gets over 85 degrees in my RV (yes, I live full time in a motorhome and both my systems ar 4u rackmount under the couch).... I need to drop to 133Mhz... if it gets over 95egrees under the couch I have to drop to 1.6G 🙂 There is a reason Intel rates them for high heat -- and they overclock. Wait until summer, your overclocking will drop. Of course, I am in Arizona now and it is starting to get warm during the days... but only for a few hours each day. I'm planning on adding a couple large fans under the couch - but that drains my batteries/inverter more... easier to just turn down the clock speed a bit.

Run them in a 50 degree room, I bet I could do 155FSB!

FYI: on the sis645 chipset (not dx) you can use all three ddr slots if you are using pc2100 however if you want to use pc2700 (ddr333) you can only use 2 slots.

Very good mobo and chip combo; I am running at 150FSB a 1.6a at 2.4GHz with 1:1 mem ratio (Mushkin High Perf DDR PC2100). Note that some claim that you will get a better benchmark if you set your mem to 2-2-2 than you will if you o'clock your memory at 2-3-3.
The increased bandwidth of the memory speed seems to be theoretically good, but frankly, I cannot tell much difference in "real life" use. I suspect that the same is true of RDRAM's increased memory bandwidth compared to overclocked DDR bandwidth. Besides, this combo will do 3.0GHz of mem bandwidth once the PC3000 appears in the on-line market in quantity.

Sounded like mine - after 20 minutes everything slowed to a crawl. Turns out that it may have been improper drivers for the onboard sound. I fixed that and now I have run Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Counter Strike for almost a whole day (4 of us) flawlessly at 2.208 (1.6A), Awesome board and faasst.

Add me to the stoked P4S333 owners list 😀 1.6A@2.32ghz/1.525v and MOST importantly 42.5c under heavy load w/ stock cooler so my rig doesn't make it sound like I'm living on the Air Force base's flight line anymore! BTW Regalk, I'm glad to see that you've found happiness with an SiS chipset 🙂

No it is not SiS that gave me headaches in the past it is one of the manufacturers that uses the SiS chipset i.e ECS and need I say which brand. SiS is a good alternative to Via/Intel and I give them a lot of credit for coming out with a real nice bunch of chipsets in a relatively short time frame. Now if only they can get more support for their AMD line.

I just started to put together my P4S333 and 1.6a last night. I bought 256mg of Mushkin PC2700 for it. the only bad thing is my chip is a Costa Rica. It should still do at least 133FSB though right?

Man was I floored when I saw that damn heatsink/fan combo that comes with the northwoods.:Q

It doesn't matter where the chip is packed at. The only thing that matter is that if you got lucky or not. Go here and look under the cpu database.

Great Mob, my 1.6P4 is running 157fsb 2512Mhz, memory 4/5 2.5 2 2 6 2 which gives me the best performance. It will run at 161fsb 2576Mhz but the memory has to run at 1/1 and the performance is less. V core is 1.7v, memory is kingmax 2700. Only problem was the game port was unstable useing flight simulator so I installed my sound blaster live card. Performance went up a lot when I disabled the on board sound and installed the sound blaster card. Had no other problems even at 161fsb.

Asus p4s333
Kingmax 2700 DDR
Lan card
CD 50x rom
CD burner
TV Card
Sound blaster live
20 gig WD HD 2700rpm🙂

So am I looking for someone who has the same batch#? I have a 3204A497, I didn't see any of them on the list. I just hope it will do at least 133FSB.

Great board, I run mine at 2.4 GHz on stock voltage and cooling completely stable. I had it up to a 157 FSB, but I don't like overvolting it, besides, 2.4 is fast enough. I want to get some PC333 (using Crucial PC266 now) and see what that does. Can't go wrong with the 1.6A/P4s333 combo.

Ok thanks for all the informative posts, now my new question, whats the best ram to get for this board if i want to o'c it the best, ddr 2100, 2700, what? Also what is good brand, i know of crucial, micron, samsung...
