1.6a + MUSHKIN PC2700 + Asus P4B266 retail OVERCLOCK question

hi everyone,

I can't get my system to overclock past 2.352 (16 x 147fsb).

I'm using retail Intel heatsink and fan and voltage is already up to like 1.65.

What is holding me back? the ram, motherboard, or is my 1.6a just not one of the lucky ones to go any higher.

If i switch to an Asus P4B533-E with PC3200 RAM will I be able to overclock higher?

thanks for the help!

you might want to do a search for p4b266 and read all the overclocking thread you can find...especially Thugsrook's...all the info you need to overclock 1.6A and p4b266 board is there...
but for a quick look...you might want to up your vcore a bit more...disable anything you don't use in bios...such as USB...set mem ratio to the lowest...mem setting to by spd if not the lowest...pc3200 ram would be helpful...and the newer p4b533 also would be great...much richer in o/cing option...
you might also want to list your specs for comparsion since many user in this forum have such setup inclucding myself...just p4b266-c board and might be different ram

your are getting a 47% overclock..that is great....chip may just need juice or a compnent maybe holding you back...try just having ram, HDD, cpu and videocard and see how you..the fewer things connected less that can hold back your overclock....

But I think you are doing great..also what are your specs..like PS

As said above your overclock is great as it is, EXPECTING more is just whining; maybe you can go higher, maybe you can't but 2.35 Ghz is definately not unlucky.

You forgot to list one of the most pivotal parts of your machine for overclocking: your power supply. If you have a less than 300W brand name, or less than 350W generic Power Supply, with a nice high +12V rating then that is quite possibly this which is holding you back.

As for what you have:

Leaving the memory ratio at 1:1 in the BIOS that memory should go up to 166 Mhz FSB no sweat, probably higher (166 MHz FSB = 333 MHz DDR = PC2700, and most Mushkin should overclock well also). So, that's not a problem.

The P4B266 should be fine until 2.7/2.8 GHz or so; thugsrook found that his awesome 1.6A would go to 2.78 Ghz or so on the P4B266 but no more, however would go into the 2.8's with a P4B533. The P4B266 shouldn't be a problem until 2.8 GHz.

Are you using a power supply with the square 4-pin connector (and not the 4-pin HDD molex), in conjunction with the regular ATX connector? If not I suggest a 350-450 W Enermax/Antec/etc power supply.

enable turbo1 mode in bios. (thats the agp/pci lock)
disable pci transaction delay.
disable usb legacy support - and usb entirely if you dont use it.

on the p4b266 boards you should use all 3 power connectors on the motherboard.

HTH 🙂
