Thought this is a pretty hot deal since it is $150 + shipping pretty much everywhere else.

1.5TB Seagate Freeagent USB2.0

There are also some cash back deals for dell (e.g. fatwallet 1.5% for dell small biz ... FYI - dell home only gives 1.0% cash back on fw for storage products)

Yep, pretty much kills it for me by being USB 2.0 only. That has to be the worst interface they could possibly use for a large HD.

USB2.0 is not that bad.
Yes if you are moving 1.5TB, it is horrible ;-)
But for normal usage or as a backup drive it will suffice (e.g. the first backup might take ours if it is hundreds of GB ... but the differential for each following backup will be rather small)

i almost purchased this, except for the fact that over 50% of the reviews says that this drive dies easily, and getting a "good copy" is like winning the lottery...

The seagate drives earlier this year all had some firmware problems.
this is the second 1.5TB freeagent I bought and so far ... no issues.
will keep a close watch on the SMART info though.

Using 1 of these drives as a secondary backup (I rotate them so that they are not in the same location).

they sell it only for 109.99... It's like buying it locally for 99.99.

FYI - the 1TB Seagate is just as affected by the firmware issue.
It seems they now have the problem under control.
