yes.
well i currently have 1.5gb of DDR1 RAM installed on my pc. I bought 2gb of DDR2 RAM recently but I have a motherboard issue that makes that I can only use 1gb of my DDR2 at a time (if I put both sticks, it DOES NOT COMPUTE).

so I'm wondering.
Is it better to have 1.5gb DDR1 or 1gb DDR2? i know it's faster but there is 512mb less.
if I put only 1gb DDR2, will there be a noticeable decrease in performance?
(while playing games I mean)
o u c?

the thing is I might have to give away my DDR1 and I'm not gonna buy a new mobo before a couple of weeks, so i wonder what will be the effects on my computer performance.

thanks :D

Specifically what motherboard and RAM are we talking about here? There may be a way to get both sticks of DDR2 to work.

Also, the answer will depend on how much RAM you tend to use. What games/apps are you running?

Oh for the motherboard problem, I'm afraid it is out of our control. It's an ECS P4M890T-M2, so you can guess the quality. The RAM is hmm Buffalo Select PC2-5300.
I started a thread already : http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=2137968&enterthread=y

I will soon buy a new motherboard anyways.
I mostly play Valve stuff like Team Fotress 2 and Half-Life episodes. I also sometimes play like WoW and The Witcher and Bioshock and all. My video card is a GeForce 8800GTS 320mb.
So do you think that, for 512mb, i will be sad of my performance or will i see not much difference?

More memory is always better.

Don't spend the money on 1GB DDR2 - you won't see any dramatic increase in overall speeds.

When you get a new MB, only then decide on a Dual-Channel kit.
