I am trying to get a 1.4 gig Athlon working with a tyan s2390b motherboard for my brother. His computer has never been too stable no matter what components I put in it. Today I found a note on the Tyan's site saying that they don't recomend 1.4 gig athlons running on anything but a 100Mhz bus. So I switched my bus to 100Mhz, but the multiplier did not automatically change from 10.5. Could someone tell me why, please? I cannot find a place to change the multiplier manually. Am I supposed to unlock the cpu? Thanks so much for your help.

The multiplier is set (although can be changed) on Athlon CPUs. AMD made 100FSB and 133 FSB 1.4GHz CPUs. The 100FSB had a multiplier of 14 and the 133 had a multiplier of 10.5. The CPU will not automatically switch depending upon what FSB you provide it.

If you feel your skills are good enough, you can try setting the multiplier yourself:
