1.4Ghz T-Bird owners, what stepping do you have?

I've been searching through posts and stepping charts and the only two steppings I can find are AXIA (which are probably all sold out by now) and a later stepping which is AYHJA. I don't see any other steppings reported.

Here's why I ask: NewEgg sells the 1.4Ghz, but they want $93 (free shipping) for a regular OEM unit, or $106 ($99+$7 shipping) for a AHYJA stepping. Now, if all 1.4 T-Birds are AYHJA, then spending the extra $13 is just foolish. Some of the comments about the OEM unit indicate that people have recieved AHYJA steppings. Has anyone bought one of these 1.4Ghz OEM's from NewEgg? If so, what stepping did you get, and what's your OC.

I can hear it now: "Skip the T-Bird and get a 1800+ XP for the same price."

Well, I'd like to, but I have a IWill KK266R MB and many, many people report that after installing an XP processor the MB won't post at all, or if it does they get constant lockups & crashes with marginal stability at best. In fact, I just read a post that included an e-mail from IWill tech support that states that the XP is NOT compatable with the KK266 series of motherboards. It seems like the end of my upgrade path is the 1.4Ghz T-Bird, so that's what I'm looking at right now.

I got the 1.4Ghz AYHJA from Newegg, and I am getting ideas to overclock it this weekend. From what I have read and heard, it is possible to get that chip up to 1.6 and more if you have the right MB and cooling.

I was under the impression that all 1.4GHz t-birds were AYJHA, but I can't say for certain. Maybe you can save some money by finding a 1GHz with either AXIA or AYJHA stepping. I have one of each which tops out at 1400 and 1500 with good air cooling and a max of 1.85v. I have gotten both about 100MHz higher by using 2.0v-2.1v on my Epox 8K7A, but I like to run 2.0v or less on air cooling to be safe. I have been testing some Morgans lately and have noticed that they are easier to cool and are about the same speed as a thunderbird clock for clock. PM me if you are interested, I might be willing to sell either pretty cheap for a reasonable offer. All three of my AMD set ups support the XP cpu, I could go for a cheap Morgan 1.2GHz or the cheapest XP 1600. How does $55 shipped for the AXIA-9 or $65 shipped for AYJHA-K sound?

Thanks Rouge :) , but I already have an AXIAR-Y 1GHZ @ 1.4Ghz in my main machine. I'm really looking for a 1.4Ghz AYHJA-Y for my game machine, in the hopes it'll do ~1.7Ghz w/ AX7 HSF. Your offer is very generous, but I'd rather buy from somewhere that can RMA if any problems arise. I think I'll take a chance and get the Newegg 1.4Ghz OEM for $93 shipped and keep my fingers crossed that I'll get an AYHJA.

EDIT: Oops, prices just changed.
1.4Ghz OEM: 88+7= $95 shipped
1.4Ghz AYHJA : 99+7= $106 shipped
But, now the difference is only $11...

Should have bought it yesterday :( .

No sweat. After making up my mind almost on an impulse when reading your thread, I went immediately to the For Sale/Trade forum and listed both cpu's. The AXIA sold in about 10 minutes, so thanks for giving me the inspiration! I haven't decided for sure yet, but I think I will get the XP 1600 and shoot for 1700MHz. My current set up runs real good at 160-162MHz fsb speed, so with a little luck I won't even have to unlock it. I am also working on a budget water cooling set up, so I think if an air cooled attempt at 10.5 x 162 for 1701MHz fails, the water cooling will get me there for sure. My other option is to buy a Morgan 1.2GHz and shoot for 1400MHz in my teenage son's set up and use the water cooling to get 1620MHz on the AYJHA. Probably the real reason for all this is just so I have some more cpu's to play with;)

That's a pertty good FSB speed. What is your PCI bus speed?
I wish you good luck with your water cooling setup. :) According to the CPU Database, you need water cooling to get a 1600 XP past 1.6Ghz. I don't really know for sure as I've never had an XP.

It runs about 40MHz, I actually was running the board stable at 168MHz no problems, but I installed a NIC card to lan two of my rigs together for gaming. The NIC card actually handles 168MHz, but after all my IRQ's got pushed around my usb controller disappears at 163MHz. I tried switching everything around several times, but no luck. Yeah, I saw the data base and the average overclock is usually accurate if you are limited to 1.85v. But my ace up the sleeve is my voltage can be adjusted to 2.25v. I noticed that most of the people running 1600MHz or lower were only using 1.85v or less. Those XP cpu's sure run cool compared to a thunderbird. My kids have a Morgan 1GHz running 1209MHz on an older KT7, limited to 1.85v. That falls real close to the average at Overclockers.com. But I put it on the Epox 8K7A and gave it 2.13v and got 1296MHz out of it, almost an extra 100MHz. The best thing was my full load temp in Prime 95 stayed at 40c, even at the high core voltage! I ordered the Thermalright AX-7, it was pretty cheap and I am hoping this will get the job done without pursuing the water cooling further.

Please let me know how you like the AX7, as I'm thinking about buying one real soon. My Millenium Glaciator works great, but when I cold boot now, the fan makes hella noise for a while. I can't replace the fan, as it's proprietary and I can't seem to find another one anywhere. Oh well, now I know not to buy a HSF that doesn't have a readily replacable fan.

Oh well, now Newegg is sold out of the OEM. All they have is the 1.4Ghz AYHJA for $99+$7=$106 shipped...

That's what I am using on my primary rig, Millenium Glaciator 1. I am hoping to get the AX-7 by early next week, I'll slap it in right away and give it a run. I bought the Glaciator to escape the infernal delta noise, so I have a very quiet YS-Tech 80mm fan that pumps 40cfm reserved for the Thermalright. I have seen reviews where they have tested it with everything from a 27cfm fan to the 80cfm Delta screamer. OUCH! my ears! It did well even with the slowest fan, heat seemed to climb just 2 or 3 degrees by going down to 40cfm from the horrible delta. Under 40cfm it seemed to jump up in heat another 2 or 3 degrees.

How do I determine what stepping I have?

(Please don't ask me to remove the HSF.......... ain't gonna happen......... sry)

PS: XP "system information" says:

Processor x86 Family 6 Model 4 Stepping 4 AuthenticAMD ~1560 Mhz

Is that what you need?

Wanna buy a Xp1800+ and I'll trade you for my 1.4Ghz AYHJA that's running at 1.6Ghz now. :D can hit higher if you have a better fan.

Just take a look at the core of your chip. It'll tell you. The first line will tell you the stepping of the chip.

Please stop asking me to trade. I won't even consider that option because if I buy a chip I want some kind of warranty. Why would I buy a chip just to trade it? Why don't you send me your chip for free...

I had a AYHJA 1G chip running at around 1.5G on an Iwill kk266R mobo with vcore at default....this stepping is good.....there is a even better one which is AYHJAR I think this can oc even higher.....I think that all the recent 1.4G T-bird are AYHJA stepping, but I can be wrong....however I would recomand you to ebay or somehow sell your old mobo and memory and upgrade to a ddr system and get a xp processor.......

Let's see... Why would I upgrade to XP/DDR/MB from a ROCK stable 1.4Ghz T-Bird@~1.6Ghz/512MB SDRAM@150Mhz/KK266-R?

XP: $100
512 MB DDR: $100 (very conservative estimate)
MB: $100
Total: $300

To summarize: Spend $300 and get 10-15% speed improvement...
"Wouldn't be prudent at this juncture."

I feel you on all of that. I wanted to go XP but if I get my 1.4 to 1.6 for free then I'll take that. If I kill it then I'll have a reason to get an XP. I got 768megs of sdram in mine and I don't want to junk it for 256megs of ddr ram.

so basicly I am looking for a cpu for my ABIT KT7a-RAID MOBO. the athlon 1.4 GHZ should suffice? Still trying to figure what fan/combo is good. check out my rig and you can tell that my case is ultra cooled by 12 fans.....
So wht should I go for any ideas?
