1.4GHz PIII overclock

I have a MSI 694T Pro currently housing a PII-700 @1.01 GHz. The board supports Tualatin processors and has bus speeds from 133 to 160MHz in 1 MHz steps. I'd like to stick a 1.4GHz PIII on it and overclock. How successful is this processoer as an overclocker? I'd like to go P4 but can't afford a new processor, board, memory, etc on Social Security.
Thanks for any response.

Bill you might be able to grab a 8rda+ and a 1700+ About $125 total for both...

That would be about the price of a Tualatin...

And you could use your current memory.

:D

EDIT: PLus, look how far my 1700+ has went...

1ghz overclock.

:)

Bryan;

I checked out the 8RDA and the price is right but it uses 184pin DDR SDRAM and my current board uses 168pin SDRAM so I would have to get new memory. I also use dial up and my modem is an ISA bus modem so I'd have to get a new modem. The 1700+ and it's stable mates do look good. I haven't used an AMD processor for about 10 -12 years and it looks as though they have come a long way The best price on a retail PIII 1.4GHz is $210 so I may seriously consider going the AMD route.I should be able to get at least $50- $75 out of my 694T, processor and 768Mb of PC133.
Thanks for your input

Bill well that 75 basically would pay for your MOBO...

Your looking at about 50 for a CPU and about $100 for a nice 512 stick...

For $150 your performance gain would be HUGE.

If you don't wanna overclock, you could just go with a 2500+ for like 80-90...

get a celeron 1.1A or 1.2 (Tualatin and 100fsb) and bump it up to 133fsb (1.46-1.6ghz)

I have a 1.0A myself, I got it up to 1.5, but my ram couldn't take the 150fsb.. so I run it at 1.4 now..

Bryan;

Since I've not kept up with AMD processors, I have a couple of questions. I'm under the impression that AMD processors are not multiplier locked in the same unchangeable way Intel processors are. Is this true? Is it possible to change the multiplier setting as well as the bus speed? I've also read several posts where the 1700+ and it's relatives are running hot but your temp seems very reasonable. How is the stock fan or should I get an OEM chip. Whatever I end up getting I'll probably be dealing with NewEgg. I've had excellent service from them in the past
Thanks for your help.

Looks like all newegg has now are the 1.3 Tualy's.

I went for a "safe" easy overclock... no VID pin wire trick for me. I over clocked my 1.0A to 1.33 ghz with stock voltage. Running good... might be able to get safely past 1.4, but I just ordered AMD parts (XP 2500+ and Epox Nforce 2 mobo + GF4-Ti4200 128mb) combo to get more performance. Will make my current rig for my daughter.

BTW, what is a good reasonably quiet fan for a XP 2500+ OC? Looking to keep stock voltage and try to stay cool.
