Im looking to finally upgrade to a 1.4ghz but Im stumped on which mobo to go with. Im really looking for stability as the main factor since Im not going to overclock. On board sound isn't an issue since I'll be using a live card. Im tempted to go with the Asus A7M266 but the price is a bit high compared to the DFI and Epox boards. I don't know if Im willing to gamble on the ECS SiS board though.

TIA

I have seen problems posted with every motherboard, especially Asus (they sell so many of them). Select your motherboard according to price and ram. If you don't have much experience installing motherboards, get a friend to help you. I also would select a reputable vender in case you have to return the board. Many have used Newegg (they have a high turnover and fresh shipments every week).

I'll say u stick w/ Asus, Epox or Abit...all seems reputable and solid mobo. Then the next thing is the chipset on those mobo. Go for AMD 761 as it is the best performer. But if u can wait a bit, the KT266A chipsets is comin out in bout a mth offering a 17% performance increase over SIS735 (currently the best chipsets).

I have had two ECS boards without problems. However, these are new chipsets comming out so it's anyone's gamble. Right noe ECS is lacking in options, but the price can't be beat. Personally I am waiting for the KT266A to come out and get an Asus board.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations etc. I've had experience with installing mobos before so Im not worried about flashing, jumpers etc. They are just annoying to deal with ;) I think the only thing holding me back on the Epox or DFI boards is the problems with live! cards. I may wait for the KT266A boards now tho. Thanks again

DFI AK76. I run it on my box with Micron CAS2 ram and a 1.4ghz. Good, solid board.
