My centrino only boots as 600mhz. My barebone laptop is the ecs g551 and it always boots at 600mhz. The cpu string id is still pentium m... 1.3ghz, but it only runs at 600mhz. WHat could I have missed? I have 256mb pc2700 sodimm installed in dimm2 (i think its dimm2). Maybe a bios flash should help.

I was just going to post this. I just discovered this program and it solves ALL the woes created by XP's unaccessable speedstepping program.

XP also does not always accurately show the CPU speed for Pentium Ms in system properties... most often when you boot under battery, and then plug in the power cord XP will not show the proc speed as stepped back up. Speedswitch has it's own speed calculation ap and shows the right speed.
