1.33 T-bird to XP 1800+ - any point in upgrading?

I just checked out the latest spec's and BIOS info for my MSI K7T Turbo (ver. 3.0) mainboard, and it seems like it can handle the XP1800+. Since this CPU is selling at a low price (even here in Norway...) I was wondering if I should put up the cash and upgrade, mostly to keep me going for 6-12 months (waiting for AMD Hammer.....).

I've got 256MB of SDRAM (133 MHz), and I'm not gonna upgrade it since that would mean a change of mobo.

Other than that? Well, my GeForce2 Pro will most likely move out to fit in a video card with DVI and Dual capabilities.

Any input on this?

thanks,

I had an Athlon 1.0GHz @ 1.467GHz, and i upgraded to an 1800+, and even at stock speeds was much faster! 🙂

Especially for Seti@home, which i run on my system for Team Anandtech. I also get much better performance in games.

As for the gfx card, i can recommend the GeForce 4 Ti4200, i have the 128mb MSI one, and that has DVI and TV Out, and is a very nice upgrade to the old GF2MX i had 😀

If your main concern is gaming, go for the GFX card, if not, then if you have the money to spend, go for the 1800+ 🙂

Thanks! I must say I liked the reply... 😉

I've been thinking about upgrading, but I would really like to wait it out a little while longer, since AMD is said to be releasing their new CPU's within the next 6-12 months. And after all - my rig's served me well for the last 15 months.
