$1,300 - $1,500 to spend on a TV

Hey all, I have about 1300 to 1500 to spend on a new TV. Not sure which one to get. I dont really follow TV tech so any suggestions would be appreciated!

btw. I need to keep it limited to what Best Buy offers around that price range, maybe just a tad higher.

I will be using it for both watching HD TV and playing console games on it!

Oh, and for size, anything 46 and up!

Mitsubishi - Home Cinema / 65" Class / 1080p / 120Hz / 3D DLP HDTV-$1,399.98

I'm kind of starting to look for a bigger TV because I got a 46" thinking it would be big enough, but it's not quite. I'm really considering DLP because of the price to size ratio. Also, their picture quality is very good, I'd say better than LCD, and the viewing angle isn't as bad as it used to be. LCDs and Plasmas will still have better viewing angles, but you don't have to be sitting pretty much directly on like you used to for the old DLPs; you can sit at a pretty good angle and still see a fully colored image.

It will be used in my living room area. It will be on almost every day. Lighting is not an issue for me as I have no windows that will be facing the TV directly.

Do you want a TV with a larger fooprint, i.e. the DLP linked in the second post, or a flat-screen you can mount on the wall?

What about features? Do you want the TV to be wireless? 3D? Have Applications like Netflix and Vudu? Etc.?

As a side note, the major manufacturers have started coming out with their 2011 product lines, so you may be able to drop by the store and pick up a 2010 model on the cheap. As a benchmark, check in-store prices against Amazon.com's price to make sure you're not getting screwed.

Flat for sure, I will probably mount it on the wall in the future. 3D is no biggie for me, so no need for that feature. Also, you mentioned wireless? I'm not quite caught up with TV sets here but why does the TV need a wireless internet feature?

Thanks again for the responses!

Epson has in the clearance section the 1080ub projector refurb at $999. Its a $3000 PJ and you can get a 100" screen at tiger direct for under 1 bill.

Another vote for a new Mitsu DLP, been loving my 60" that I bought for $600 on Cyber Monday.

I think you'd be pretty happy with the TV linked in the post above. Keep in mind that some people that live at high altitudes report hearing a buzzing sound with it, but if you live at a lower altitude you don't have to worry about it.

I have the PN50B550 and the only buzz I hear is from about two feet away when the sound is on mute. I live at 4800 feet.

No projectors, thanks for the suggestion though.

That plasma looks pretty nice! Someone told me though that when playing games too long that the image will burn in? For example, if playing a FPS, the ammo and health gage will burn into the display for a while? Are those only older plasma sets?

The risk of image retention/burn-in has been mitigated with newer technology like built-in pixel changers, as well as several downloadable packs online that you can throw on a flash drive and break a new plasma in with for a few days or so.
