I did a ghetto focus adjust mod for my camera. Take a look Click on "10 Dollar Digital Camera"

Dam nice job, right down to the flower and mountain icons on the side. You must be an Engineer or Technician based on the level of detail and creativity. I can't wait to get one of these cams but they haven't made their way to the Connecticut Ritz stores yet.

I-got-my-camera-during-lunch-break bump.

LOL, it's in pieces on my desk already. Can't wait to bust out the soldering iron when I get home.

Somebody ought to make a DIY package. Sorta like the old Heathkit ones. Package would include camera, usb cable, Palm serial cable and shipping. You could sell them for $20 shipped and still make $4-$5 each.

Those of you in Boston or around there, the Cambridgeside Galleria has a Ritz camera that sells these puppies. I picked up two. It's on a display shelf placed by one of the checkout counters. There's 4 left if I remember right.

one question. if i just wanted to use the palm cable without splicing on a usb cable would it still work? i realize using the non-usb port would be slower, but would it still work?

Excellent find. I can't wait to get my hands on one of these cameras. There is even talk of making a survellance system using this camera. It's going to be interesting to see what everyone comes up with as I look forward to wasting more of my time :).

I just picked up the last camera at Kits Camera (Seattle/Northgate) and the last of the palm sync cables at RadioShack (Seattle/UVillage; number 25-983). Total Cost: $18.78.

The pictures really aren't that bad. I would say they're on-par with any other disposable camera. Certainly cheaper than using my non-digital camera to photograph the progress on my mini-HTPC project and then scanning the photos.

An interesting tid-bit: I stopped by Tall's Camera after purchasing the Dakota and the manager said that he could develop the photos for me - he had alread made his own hacked cable using the palm sync cable.

Anyone know if these are still available? Online perhaps? There's no Ritz around NYC for miles.

And has the walgreens version been successfully hacked yet?

The LCD version is supposed to be in the next shipment to my local store, it will be interesting to see if the card edge connections are the same, and if the software will function with it.

Same here in Florida, but supposedly the LCD version only allows you to see the last picture you took, so it's not a big deal. Unless of course, it is hacked so you can use it to display all the pictures in memory!

So basically us Anandtechers can find any coupon code on the planet...I can't believe we can't find this camera online :p. I will surely post if I find anything.
