1.2GHz vs 1.3GHz?

i'm currently trying to decide between two mobo's, the asus a7v133 and the msi k7t266 pro. yes i realize they have different chipsets so it's kind of like comparing apples to oranges, but the reason i'm posting the message in this forum follows...

the a7v133 with a 1.3ghz athlon runs about $224
the k7t266 pro with a 1.3 ghz athlon runs about $250

woopy

BUT

the k7t266 pro with a 1.2 ghz athlon runs about $210, so it's actually cheaper than the a7v133 with a 1.3ghz chip and i get the benefits of ddr memory.

so i'm asking... for someone who primarily uses a computer for multimedia things (games, and the such) is there such a huge difference between a 1.2 and a 1.3 processor?

thanks for the help, if you can't tell already i'm very new to the hardware scene.

:)In all the benches I have seen up till now the DDR system should outperform the SDRAM system by up to 15%. IMHO that makes up for the the diffs between 1.2 and 1.3 allready.

Its not that simple though......when you factor in the price diffs between SDRAM and DDR the later option will be significantly more expensive.

Sill....id say go for the DDR option.....Myself ive just upgraded from an Asus A7V133 to a Gigabyte 7DXR and I can tell you...not only does it overclock much better but it seems a lot more stable 2.

Yo,
An upgrade from 1.2 to 1.3 Ghz will be invisible to the end user. Not significant enough of a jump.

Unlike the previous posting above, my A7V133 is as stable as a rock and overclocks nicely; however, you cannot compare systems, as stability is influenced by a wide range of variables. Nonetheless, at this point I'd have to recommend going the DDR route, as now they have PC2400 and PC2700 RAM, not to mention lower latency (faster) versions of PC2100 and PC2400. DDR RAM price has also bottomed out. DDR motherboards will cost you a bit more, expect to pay in the ballpark of $50 more for a good DDR versus nonDDR board.

Good luck.

MMMMMMM....didnt mean to imply my A7V133 was unstable. Just that with the 7DXR I get better overclocks.....got my 1G@1425 at the moment and rock steady. With the Asus best i could get was just over 1.3. Come to think of it,,,might have had a lot to do with the memory i used on the Asus

9.5X150 :D

P.S. That with a Coolermaster HSF

If you wanna go for DDR go for a AMD760 chipset mobo.
Those outperform the kt133a of the A7V133 by about 10%.

However the kt266 chipset is NOT significantly faster than the kt133a.

It seems that the 266mhz FSB is the bottleneck.

My choice was the Asus A7V133..Rock solid and very overclockable.

PS: Be sure to get top quality CL2 PC133 or PC150 SDRAM.

Can't wait for nForce.....
