i wonder how well the 1.2 athlon does on seti and rc 5.

what do you guys think of the new athlon prices.
these are from pricewatch

thunderbird pent 3
1.2 $490
1.1 $363
1.0 $270 $673
950 $235
933 N/A $439
900 $173
850 $148 $259
800 $136 $215

amd duron celeron
800 $107
700 $65 $130
667 N/A $97
650 $57
600 $47 $76

you could really build a fast cluster
for a lot less then you could before.

i mean a 1 gig cpu for $270.
i spent about $200 each for my pent 3 550 cpus
that i got for my cluster ( i overclocked by %50
but spent between $35 and $50 on each heatsink).

Yes priceing has never been better... Ram's getting cheaper. CPU's are way down. Now if only Motherboards would get cheaper...

One thing that bothers me is that the multipliers on the motherboards aren't all that good - the Asus A7v I think tops off at 1.4 GHz - well their at 1.2 now and 1.4 soon to come as the P4 nears.

I'm sure they will autodetect the multiplier just fine. and for the next few months i don't think anybody will be overclocking past 1.4 Ghz. I'm sure it will all be sorted out soon. Plus I believe AMD will be covering up the golden bridges or doing something so the pencil trick won't work by that time. Not too sure about timing but pretty sure it's gonna happen. Looks like we will only be able to play with the FSB.

We had an Athlon 950, and it would not overclock at all with a KA7, tried everything, but it will do 3.1M/keys second!

i think the ddr based mb's with these prices
would make a killer system.

let alone when mustang is out.

they will prob be changing the bus soon to 133mhz
(or 266 with ddr).

then it will shine even more.

even if you weren't able to overclock these are still great prices. i think overclocking will be dead soon though, getting a ddr bus to go faster is hard enough, intel is going to have qdr. the p3 will still be fsb overclockable though. hopefully it will be around a while.
