A friend gave me a 1.2ghz duron on a POS Amptron/PCCHIPS board, which has little if any overclocking features on it. Hell, with the BIOS it had on it it didn't even detect the Duron correctly.

Anyway, it's a bit lackluster on performance - being an ALi MagiK 1 chipset. At least it sucks at a 100MHz FSB. I'm pretty much wondering how far I can push a Morgan-core Duron 1.2GHz - if I can just "flip the switch" so to speak and clock it at 1.6GHz without unlocking the chip. On top of that, this board doesn't have any multiplier selector, so I'd have to hardlock the chip to the multiplier I'd want (10.5x or 11x @ 133FSB).

All this with STOCK AMD Retail cooling. You think it'll work?

nevermind - it ain't gonna do 400MHz more with the HSF it's got on it - it's sitting at 51 degrees IDLE. *sigh* - if only it had mounting holes for my PAL8045...

even if you get good cooling, those Morgan Durons top out at about 1.4ghz....and that is for a good one. most poop out at 1.3

good chip though....especially for free !!!!
