1.2 Gig AYHJA-9 Can't boot past 1466 but runs all day @ 1540!

I fried a wonderful 1gig hand picked avia-y that would run at 1466 rock solid. (Just a little hot with a "CORE&quot I fried it putting a Swiftech 462-a on wrong! So I now have a 1.2 gig T-bird AYHJA-9 that I hand picked at my local Computer Masters in Norman,OK. It will only boot up at 1466. (11*133)
Anything after that regardless of multiplyer or FSB and it hangs! I maxed out Core voltage on MSI K7T-Turbo-Raid @ 1.85 and still wont boot past 1466. After I am in windows though I can run a program that came with the motherboard called Fuzzy Logic, (that lets you up the FSB)and I can get it up to 1540! (11*140) It will run all day at that speed! Runs all kinds of benchmark test's and Quake 3 and never gets above 48c under full load. Anybody have any suggestions on how to boot it up at 1540?

It may be that you need a copper heatsink. Apparently, at bootup, the processor gets real hot real fast and aluminum doesn't seem to cut it.

I've got the same processor (1.333 AYHJA 9) with the same problem, although I'm using an Epox board. And hey, whadaya know, I'm in OKC, does that count as close to Norman? By the way, it's no different with my copper bottom taisol.

I am using a Swiftech 462-a hsf on this CPU. It is one of the best rated with a copper bottom!

Try lowering the fsb and raising the multiplier. My 9 chip will not load windows at 11x134 but loads and runs all day at 1552 12x129 or even 1586 12x132 and will run benchmarks at 1601 133x12, but locks up after a few hours at this speed. But I just finished a 6 hour lan party last night (combo b'day and f'day) without crashing once. Well it did crash once when my boy tried to start a cs with bots server. That was neither heat or stress induced, but more likely fumble fingered induced. Temps never got above 48c an an abit kt7a raid board. I have crucial 133 cas 2 but it should (according to the reviews) go above 133. So its either the mb or the cpu. I vote for the cpu although it could be the mb. HTH

Too lazy to type in your system url, it doesn't appear as a clickable link, but you may have a psu problem. Booting up really demands power, and boot failure is one of the first symptoms of an inadequate psu. Your faster settings may push it just over the edge....

Kyle of HOCP wrote a couple of days ago about how he had a 1400 that wouldn't o/c, til he dumped the generic 300w in favor of a 560w Enermax, then nearly hit 1600. Not that you need to go quite that far...

Thanks for all the ideas! I have a 400 watt PSU but it's not a name brand. I will try the different FSB settings and see if that works. Thanks again.
