Same size containers? Most people keep salt in a smaller container since you use less of it and buy it in smaller quantities.

Take a good look at it next time. They actually look a little bit different.

shake the flour through a strainer onto a piece of paper or something.

measure 1/2 cup of that.

dumbass.

actually it is far more likely to mean take the measurement given, and sift that.

a food processor will work as well...i usually just use a whisk in a bowl. the idea is to aerate the flour and remove and clumps.

No it does not. You sift flower before measure to help get a more even measurement of the flower, as well as separate the flower to help prevent clumping.
Pre-sifted flower still needs to be re-sifted when used.
Weight is a better way to measure flower.

Actually it all depends on how its worded in the recipe. If the recipe says 1/2C sifted flour, then you sift flour and measure 1/2C of that. If it says 1/2C flour sifted, then you do a normal 1/2C measurement of flour and sift that (use all that is sifted).

I've only ever come across one girl who has laughed at my penchant for cooking and baking (she has a tendancy not to keep many friends). A guy here or there has as well, but they usually can't cook themselves.

The typical response is usually "wtf, where's my piece!" The only part that sucks is cost on some of the things. It gets pricey when recipes start calling for $20+ bottles of liquour :(

It's funny how gender roles, traditional gender roles can cause rebelliousness in the family. Prime case described above. Of course, I have to think you are overstating this. She can't boil water? I wonder sometimes about women who have long fingernails, though. How can they function?

I used to cook all sorts of stuff, fancy things sometimes. I'd think nothing of spending an hour making dinner. I don't have the time or patience to get all that elaborate in the kitchen anymore. The food section of my newspaper has lots of complicated recipes and most of them don't interest me. I do more basic things now. My time is too important.

It means pack the flower in the measuring cup as much as you can I think
