1.2 266 @ 1.13

I just installed a 1.2 tbird in my kt7a and I have to run it at 1.13 to run stable. Temp at idle is 36-38c, 50-60c under load with the retail hsf. I have adjusted voltage from 1.75 to 1.85 and have swapped memory ( currently using infineon 133) and I still get lockups at anything over 1.13. Power supply is a deer Dr-A300ATX 300 watt ( AMD approved up to 1.2). I am also running a hacked Radeon le @166/166 but I was able to run it @ 200/180 with cpu @ 1.13. Power supply?? Cooling?? :disgust:

That temparature sounds well within range to me. My temp gets even higher with a slower CPU. You may have simply got a faulty CPU, try returning it if you have some kind of warranty.

It's supposed to be a new retail that I got off fleabay so I doubt if warranty exists. I'm leaning toward trying another p.s. but $60 or $70 for a good 350-400 watt is a chunk-o-money that I'd rather not spend it I don't have to.

I c tht u had O/Ced ur VGA card. Set ur VGA card to default setting first b4 u O/C ur system. If it still hanged, set the RAM timing to CAS 3 & c.

Ur PSU seems sufficient.

I had the same problem with an athlon 1ghtz. Had to run it at 950 (95 x 10), so I rmad both the motherboard and cpu back to be safe. You may be wasting your money on a new ps. I use only a sparkle 235 watt ps, and My athlon 1.33 runs fine. I would recommend you borrow another ps to try before wasting your money. Otherwise, run it at 1.13. I use the Fic AD11, but the board that gave me problems was an Fic az11.

I'm glad I didn't run out and buy that $$$$ power supply. I talked to AMD and they suggested I try it in an approved board ( not KT7A ). So I stuck the 1.2 bird in a FIC AD11 today and it runs rock solid at 1.2?? I thought the Kt7a was supposed to be a solid board?? After all it is running my 750 bird @ 1.0 without a hitch?? Another kicker is the 1.2/FIC is running on a non-AMD approved generic 250w p.S. After I get better cooling ( retail hsf @ 46c idle ) I'm gonna see what this baby will do!
