I am thinking maybe flatout was a daily deal during the holiday sale,,, or maybe flatout was on sale just for the holiday sale?

I can't remember off hand if it was a daily deal during the sale or not, probably was.

I went to check some reviews for Flatout 3 just to get a general idea of pros/cons for the game and I didn't get far. Metacritic of 24 and user of 5.0. I don't put much stock in MC but when it is that low....wow.

I put more stock in MC than anything else if I want to go by reviews. It's an average of all major reviews, what's not to like?

I don't trust any "pro" review much at all. User reviews on a forum by forum basis are much better. But when all the pro reviews slam the game as bad as Flatout 3, yeah big old warning sign there.

Nothing against metacritic, but there have been accusations of companies having their employees create accounts to post positive user reviews, thus driving up the user review score.

There is nothing metacritic can do about that kind of abuse, its just one of the things what comes with running a review site.

Personally, Metacritic and Amazon are the first two sites I visit when I am looking to buy a new game.

I believe it. Even if they're legit I don't like the user reviews because they blow little things out of proportion, especially PC gamers. Crysis 2 was trounced in user reviews even though I had a good time with it.

They take dozens of different rating scales from different sites, and try to convert them into a generic, amorphous, all-encompassing 100-point scale, which is wrong. Scores aren't translated correctly (a 1-star rating is not the same as a 20%) and the final meta-rating ends up being skewed.

Not to mention all the other shadyness in the game review industry (publishers handing money under the table to review sites for higher scores, and also advertising-related bias, like the Gamespot fiasco). Then you have publishers who won't allow review sites to release a score if it's under a certain number, or delay the review if it's a bad game, which holds back useful information and skews the MC rating even more.

Metacritic is OK for getting a general idea, but nothing more. It's a pathetic and broken system.

Sure that happens, but most companies have idiot employees because you can usually tell the company posts versus real ones.

When I purchased a boxed copy of Dirt 3, it was ~$40 everywhere except at Amazon, where it was $21.

It didn't make sense until I received the copy from Amazon, and it was a european boxed copy of the game.

In for a copy of Flatout: Ultimate Carnage (the most recent good one). I hope there's some people playing online.
