Well, currently I'm running a Celeron300a OCed@ 450, with a 32mb Geforce 2 MX, heh I'm so slow, my CPU bottlenecks the MX.

For X-mas, i'm getting a 1.13 ghz Athlon, And that means new videocard upgrade.

I know the MX will be the bottleneck my new processer by far. I'm unsure what Videocard to get (I perfer Nvidia, boo to ATI).

I'm thinking about a Geforce2 Pro 64MB. Will the CPU/Videocard Bottle neck each other?

Anyone else run this Videocard/CPU setup? Know any benchmarks on webpages? Any Pros/Cons of running this?

I'm also open to any other suggestions, I want something Under $125. I'm a poor man.

Thanks,
Actaeon

If you keep your eyes open and check the Hot Deals forum regularly, I'm sure you'll be able to find a GF3 Ti200 for $125 at some point in the next month or so.

Also check newegg refurbs regularly.

Though I prefer ATI myself...they have been providing us with top notch video cards for SOO long...just took them a little while to catch up to the 3D thing after they fell behind horribly at first.<G>

Currently I've got a 1ghz athlon and geforce2 gts. I'm getting a Geforce3 ti 200 for xmas though. If you can I would say fine some more money to get the geforce3 ti 200:) I ordered the gainward for $170 from newegg and it's one of the better cards that can be OCed to ti 500 levels. But if you really don't want to spend that kind of cash then yeah a geforce2 pro is definately a good choice. I get pretty good framerates at my setup at 1024x768 so you should be fine, but I'd say in another year or two you'd have to upgrade again to be able to play newer games. At first I wasn't planning on getting a new card for xmas but it just seems like such a good deal, $170 for what seems to me a "top of the line"(not really, just the way I think of it :)) card that can hang with a ti 500 and the like. And more than likely running a ti 200 and a slower cpu would yield better frame rates at similar cost. Sorry for the long post but I think you get the idea by now:)

Hrm, notes are taken.

I'll consider a Geforce 3 Ti200..

Does anyone have benchmarks comparing the GF3 Ti200 with other cards (including the Geforce 2 Pro)?

Thanks Again,

Check Anand's Ti test here:

GeForce Ti lineup

I'm seeing Geforce2 Ti's for under $100...prolly a better buy than the GF2 Pro.

I'd make your choice between the GF2 Ti and the GF3 Ti200.

Like I said though, if you are not in a hurry and can wait for the right deal to pop up, I think the GF3 would be in the price range.

Gainward Cardexpert Geforce 3 Ti 200
4ns memory
Fire Engine Red PBC
Tv-out
only $170

ATi Radeon 8500
would be my second choice at
$188

the nvidia card with 4ns ram would oc much higher and my first pick
the ati for a non nvidia solution

either way you can not go wrong

Thanks Guys,

After all the benchmarks i've seen, I've come to Conclude, If the GF3 Ti200 falls under its $150 in about January (when I'm getting my job), then I'll get that card.

I have one more question, Does the Ti200 or the Athlon Bottleneck my system? Are they about even or what?

Thanks alot everyone, You changed my mind, a hard thing to do ;-)

Thanks alot,
Actaeon
