Does anyone know of any sub $1,100 laptops that are not celeron based and have a decent battery life with 20gb hard drive or biger and dvd-rom or beter? I would like wireless support too with at least 802.11b support.

I am curently looking at a 12" ibook G4 for just under $1,100 USD with my college student discount and airport card.

the g4 ibook is a good laptop BUT its waaaaay to heavy for a 12 incher

600m is very nice. you get the extra 2 inched and about a pound lighter

what kind of battery life does the 600m provide? I am told that the ibook gets between 4 - 6 hours depending on usage.

Apple is expected to roll out iBook revisions within the next few months. Also the newer pentium m (Dothan) is coming out. By late July or early August at least one my last two statements should be proven right. If you can wait you should be able to pimp out a 12" iBook within your budget i.e. more ram, airport, maybe applecare warranty. You can probably get a good machine with an older pentium m (Banias) for around your budget when Dothan comes out. Do not get a dell 600m, they are flimsy pieces of crap. I've used the 12" iBook and the 600m and the iBook has much better build quality. They actually weigh the same, which is to be expected since most lighter 12" inchers lack an optical drive. Anyway, if you can wait till the summer, do some more research and get a better machine.

there was a recent deal on the IBM X30, I think, for $1000 (that's ended). Keep posted to the hot deals area too.
