1:1 scaling - do I understand this correctly?

I have a Dell 2407WFP; it does 1:1 scaling, but I've not tested it out yet.

Does 1:1 scaling mean that I can run a game at a lower resolution (say that of a 20" widescreen) and it will scale down to that size perfectly without looking "weird" like LCDs do when you don't run them at native res?

Do I have that right?

If so...that would mean that I could game at the lower resolution and get increased performance out of my videocard.

If this is all obvious, I apologize...it's all new to me. :D

Thanks!

yeah it will 'shrink' your screen to use 1600*1200 pixels (or whatever you set it at).

I'd play around using the 'aspect' option in the monitor, it gives good results without having to use just a bit of that screen.

yes MichaelD, you've got it right. :)

It's much better than stretching to fill which just looks nasty.

If you find someone who says they think stretch to fill looks alright, never trust them for image quality advice. ;)

Thanks for helping me out, guys. So, will doing the 1:1 mapping shrink my screen so that I have black bars on the sides? Like you have black bars top and bottom when watching a 16:9 DVD on a normal screen?

ya rly.

EDIT: think of what it's doing, it's just using the number of pixels you designate.

Yup, that's how i run 95% of my games on my massive display.

Of course, someday it'd be nice to run some of them at full resolution, but since AMD doesn't seem to believe in releasing video cards for sale, who knows when that will be.

Thanks guys.

@N7: How do you "see everything" on that beast? :Q I've had my 2407WFP for about 10 days now and my eyes still aren't used to looking so far left/right...I turn my head. LOL!

resolutions to try are 1920z1080 and 1600x1200... they are almost evenly distributed when it comes to decrease of pixels.

Hah, one gets spoiled fast, believe me. :p

My main display area is actually not just 2560x1600 either.

It's 3760x1600, since i have my 204T as secondary in portrait mode along side it.

I no longer close programs much ;)
Firefox & mIRC alternate duties on the secondary, & my two MSN accounts + Winamp + whatever network folder/main system folders i have open (side by side of course) reside on the primary display.

It's nice for playing high def flicks & multitasking :)

That is beautiful. It's amazing to see how tiny the 204T looks compared to that behemoth 30".

Thanks for the pics!

Yes, the few games i've run at the full 2560x1600 look incredible :)

I'm sure not sure how well a 24" TV would do...i assume that would only be 720p, which isn't so great for PC use IMO.

If you want to use a TV as a display, i'd personally suggest at least looking for 1080p, unless you are strictly using it for gaming, watching videos, etc.

Heh, the cabling is a nested hellhole, but i don't look down there too much :p

Yeah, the 20" Samsungs are actually decent sized LCDs, but they look tiny compared to the 3007.
