Sorry, forgot to say, I use DVI and used it before.
And my monitor has absolutely no options for handling the aspect ratio or 1:1 via DVI.

Have you understood that the driver has NO CHANCE WHATSOEVER of making it happen if your monitor doesn't support it?

My monitor scaled perfectly with my old MSI 6600GT AND my old ancient Ti4200, so the problem is with my ATI card or drivers. 1280 x 960 works for me, but I can't get any resolution to work when the width is less than 1280. I really only need 1280 x 960 to work so I'm good for now, but the problem is still very annoying. I would like to have 1024 x 768 scale properly.

Where this is a big problem is when I tried to get a widescreen monitor. I bought a 19" widescreen Viewsonic, but I ended up giving to my wife when I couldn't get it to scale - evereything was full screen. My wife really likes the wide desktop, so it worked out, but the only widescreen monitor I can now get would be one with built-in scaling options.

I still miss the nvidia "fixed aspect ratio scaling" on my radeon. I hope ATI implements something like that soon.

I use cat 6.5 and there's an option that says digital flat panel where you can pick 'centered' scaling. Works great for...well, I tried it with BF2 just for the hell of it and it worked. 1380x1024 centered on my 1680x1050 screen. In other words, it wasn't stretched. However, the monitor still has a say. My NEC 20wmgx2 can take it....don't know about others.
