1.1 Ghz Athlon won't overclock?

Ok I just got my system and tried to overclock my 1.1 ghz system. However I cannot even get it to load windows with a 12x multiplyer. I can boot up at 11.5x and it works great, I even bumped up the FSB to 105 and I can hit 1.2 ghz that way but is there something wrong with my system?

How do I find out if the core is copper or aluminum? Also what is a normal expected overclocking speed for my processor?

Also my ASUS probe reads the CPU temp around 50C without overclocking, is this running hot? I put some thermal compound and it didn't change a bit from replacing that thermal pad.(only have CPU and PSU fan)

Athlon 1.1 Ghz on ASUS A7V 1004D Bios
256 Generic cas3 ram

45GB IBM GXP HD
Taisol fan/heatsink

Any tips/hints would help alot.

all 1.1's are copper. I dont think people buy 1.1 GHz cpu's to o/c since they are already near the limit most cpu's get to. Dont expect to gain much.

Your temps are fine for not overclocking.

also, was it an unlocked chip?

like people said, the 1.1ghz athlon is close to its limit (maybe) and its kind of hard to OC it any faster... if you can run stable (and i mean stable...) at 11.5 x 105 then do that... i dont know why it wont work at 12x though if it works at 11.5x105... thats strange.

i have same chip and mobo, i too can take fsb to 105mhz but that is it. i can get to 1100mzh only to bois then windows goes tits up

Yep, all Thunderbird 1GHz, 1.1GHz, and 1.2GHz are copper. Thats why I got the 1GHz. I didn't have to wonder if it would be copper or alluminum. Plus, I knew that it would overclock to at least 1.1GHz.

Feed it some more juice. Bump the voltage to 1.85v!

Some Thunderbirds won't go any higher no matter what voltage you give them. I'm currently running mine with 1.75V. 1.85 volts just doesn't make any difference for me.

My main system is a 1.1 oc'd to 1313 MHz.
You didn't say if you had closed the bridges in order to change your multiplier.

Just re-read your post , I missed the 11.5 part
I have found the KT7 and the K7T to both be easier to overclock than the A7V
The K7T was th better of the two.

I don't think all 1Ghz Tbirds are copper. 1.1 and above are all copper, but I think the 1Ghz chips can go either way.

yes, some 1ghz tbirds are aluminum. they only go all copper @ >=1.1ghz..

BTW - i did connect the L1 bridges using a conductive pen. I had also bumped the voltage to 1.85v but when it couldn't go any higher then 11.5x and 105 FSB I brought the voltage down to 1.75 and it's still stable??? This sure is puzzling.

I'm still trying to figure out why I can't hit 1.2 ghz with just the mulitplyer at 12x, but I can by setting it at 11.5x and bumping the FSB to 105??

Oh well, I guess Ghz and up is good enough for me !

Ooops. I didn't know that some 1GHz T-Birds were alluminum too. I guess I would have been pissed if I recieved an alluminum one.

Just some info for all of you people who have wrong info.
NONE of the athlons are copper... not even the ones with the blue cores. The blue core simply tells you that it was fabed at the dresden plant.

I also read that yesterday. I tend to believe it too.
