1,000 thread count sheets: worth it?

I'm moving to a new place, bought a new memory foam mattress, and am looking for some new sheets. I've previously just gone with flannel type sheets, but having recently looked at some 500/800/1,000 count sheets, I'm considering something nicer.

What are your thoughts? Worth it? Not worth it? Something else I should consider?

Buy them, sleep on them a couple nights, return them if you don't like it.

Ah, the glory of the American retail philosphies.

Try flannel (not the pattern, the material) bed sheets.

Or if you want to spend the bucks, try cashmere sheets.

I had 250 and 1000. I returned the 1000 because of the color. IMO thread count is just an indication of how long they're going to last.

YES! They are worth it.

My wife used to buy 300 TC jersey knit sheets that I loved. I then purchased her some 1000 TC sheets. They were nice and smooth and I liked them. I didn't realize how much I liked them until the first time she washed them and swapped back my favorite jersey knit sheets. I climbed into bed and asked her why the sheets were so scratchy.

I bought another set the next day, so when she washes one, she can put the alternate on.

Also, they wash very well and don't need replaced often. I bought mine from overstock.com. Worth every penny.

There are some studies out about this matter. Many companies have far less TC than advertised. Some say that two threads intertwined = 2 threads, when in fact it's just one thread by any other standard. Buyer beware.

I don't know if it makes a difference, but I was planning on buying from Sam's Club, and they have 500 and 800 thread counts as well. I think the prices were $120 or so for the 1,000 count sheets. Seems expensive, but now that I have a nice bed I don't want to skimp.

LegendKiller and Allisom are correct. When you get too high, the companies are using a different form of counting to exaggerate their product. Then you pay through the roof for a subpar product. Get ~300 real thread count sheets and be happy. Spend a bit more for even higher quality if you wish, but be certain you aren't being scammed.

This is a good article , and gives good info...
BUT if you find good quality "1000 thread count" sheets. you won't go wrong. I couldn't go back to the 400-500 that I used to sleep in. They feel crisp and fresh longer , they are more durable....
