How can politicians not worry about something like this?

Same reason nobody else does. How many water cooler discussions are about this? Most Americans have a sense that the dollar is weakening but couldn't, I'm positive, give even a semi-accurate guess as to its worth to a single foreign currency.

Honestly, I think that it's because most people haven't been personally impacted by it yet. I haven't really noticed foreign goods increasing in price in the US, and I haven't traveled to any foreign countries lately.

Compared to the war in Iraq and the local illegal immigration problems, this issue seems fairly trivial.

I thought that had more with the per barrel price of oil skyrocketing.

But isn't the British economy sucking?

No, it's not.
You're confusing Britain with France, and Italy.

They are also living on borrowed time, literally. Their credit cycle is a little ahead of ours, but not much. Just wait.

I agree with their credit cycle being ahead of ours.

However, when I said "better", I was speaking purely of other economic indicators.
Even with the US GDP increasing, US wages have been staying stagnant for the past 5+ years, and unemployment is still pretty much the same and still has more room for improvement.
Rich getting richer, poor getting poorer, and middle class staying middle(or being pushed to lower class because of the "rich getting richer".

The Bank of England does seem to be having problems keeping inflation under the belt, compared to other central banks.

oops...edit that...I guess I mis-remembered...it was about $2.50 back then...
In the 40's, the pound was pegged at about $4 by agreement between the US and Britian...but that didn't last too long.
