1.0 or 1.1 G T-Bird-what is quietest good CPU HS/fan?

I am looking to upgrade to a 1.0 or 1.1 gig T-Bird. Present system has a 750 classic Athlon retail-the fan on that "whined" and drove me crazy until I replaced it.

A quick hunt on pricewatch/pricegrabber leads me to the conclusion that the retail T-Bird is the best solution, cost-wise (about $13 more than OEM)-but I am also interested in QUIET. Highly unlikely that I will ever overclock this system. Frequently left on 24/7.

Any suggestions for good, cheap HS/fans for this?

Does the 1.1 G T-Bird pump out substantially more heat than the 1.0? I've gotten this impression from my reading.

Sorry if this has been asked and answered before, couldn't find it.

From what I've been reading, the GlobalWin FOP32-1 would be a good choice, it should stand up to some overclocking if you decide too. I've been thinking about building a 1.1 Tbird setup and I was thinking of either the FOP32-1 or the Alpha PAL6035.

The FOP ain't all htat quiet. The best high-tier heatsink that is also quiet would be the Taisol CGK742092.

Stay away from the FOP32-1.... the heatsink is good, according to Mikewarrior2, BUT the Fan is horrible loud. I just orderd my ADDA 60mm 16.1dBA fan from Phamcomputer, I noticed how loud the FOP32-1 while I was watching DVDs and the computer from my parents is also a lot quieter. I can recommend Phamcomputer, and they also have a excellent www.resellerratings.com rating 😉

I to would recommend Pham any day. I bought my PAL6035/Adda 16.1 dBA combo from them and was VERY pleased with the product and the service. I would actually suggest the PAL6035 with the Adda 16.1 dBA fan. It keeps my PIII 600E that that I have cranked up to 870 (need to test this weekend to see if I can get it higher) at about 95 degrees Fahrenheit. Of course this is the idle temp as I have not yet come up with a stress temp. I don't think it will go any higher than 105 under strain which I think is an very reasonable temperature. With this heatsink I think a 1.1 T-Bird would probably sit in the low 100s idle and maybe the low 110s under stress. Of course this heatsink is one of the best on the market so if you find you don't have quite enough cooling you could go to a fan with a little more airflow like a Sunon or a YS Tech.

Another confirmation/recommendation by me:

Alpha PAL6035 with the ADDA 60mm 16.1dBA. Believe it or not this is quieter than mini Adda fan on my Creative GeForce2 GTS card.

I'm on a 1.1 Ghz right now and I have a Taisol 734, but as mikewarrior2 said I would recommend the Taisol 742. It's a pretty big heatsink so avoid the Abit KT7. I would also replace the fan with a panaflo, I've done that and my CPU fan is not audible outside the case. This is the quietest setup I have seen.

Here's another thought about the FOP32. And I'll forewarn that this is my own experince.

I'd bought one to place on my old Celery 400 that I gave to my dad. I could not get it to go onto the socket on the slotket that the celery was using. So I'd give it a shot on the KT-7 and duron that I'm running now. I stopped after seeing how much I was flexing my mobo (not a happy amount of flex, somewhat worrysome). All told the FOP32 is still in a box, cause I was too scared to 'press' the strength of my mobo to get the thing to mount. And I have a PAL6035, which is very easy to mount.

It would prolly have worked fine, but maybe I got a super strength mounting clip?
