2 drinks. Of course it all depends on your size (although I'm not sure if tolerance has anything to do with the content or not) From my understanding if you slam 1 beer, 5 oz of wine, or 1 shot 1.5oz of 80proof alc you will be at about .04 for a decent sized male 160 pounds. To be safe, my rule is if I have drank 1 drink per hour or less over the night (of course assuming I didn't slam like 3 before I go) I'm going to be fine.

It isn't really "that guy's calculation" this is more or less the standard. It obviously will vary by person, but this is the chart generally used.

Interesting...

Well, if that's the case, at least I'll have some justification when my wife gets all pissy about me driving home from my buddy's house after a couple beers.

:D

You could probably drink about 18 beer in 2 hours and still be under 0.8...

That's when I started laughing too hard to continue. It was still telling me to blow as it topped 0.52 I think. I walked home :D

Most states generally look for factors that reflect your impairment. BAC is a guideline approach used by police departments; however, you can receive a drunk driving charge even if your BAC is below the legal limit if you are impaired.

These charts are guidelines.

I saw the readout hit .5 for sure, and I'm still here.

0.52 definitely does not guarantee death, or even poisoning. 0.25 and up is where the Alcohol Poisoning risk sets in, but it varies dramatically from person to person.

The readout on that machine was probably a little off.

showing the data that substantiates the fatal BAC, about
0.45%. Some authors will state the fatal level as 0.5%

source

I saw another that said .35% is known to be fatal.

Well I was 19, 192 lbs, and in perfect health. I was right in the middle of my rowing training and had built up a decent tolerance over the previous 4 months of school :)

And I was kinda sick for a while that night. The cool air helped a lot.

If the arresting officer DECIDES you are drunk, then you are. They don't really need a machine's proof to haul your ass to jail.

They do that "astigmatic gaze" test thing, where they stand in your face and watch your eyeballs move side-to-side. Apparently alcohol intoxication makes them "ratchet" instead of "glide."

While they are in your face, they are smelling your breath. If they think you're drunk, congrats; you've just been arrested for SUSPICION of DWI...that alone is enough to get your license suspended in most states.

You think your insurance company is going to give a sh1t that you "weren't really drunk?" Buh-bye nice insurance, hello $1,500 per 6 months insurance. :disgust:

Bottom line: Dont' drink and drive.
