I have an 04 endeavor that is supposed to get 16 mpg and is only getting 10 and if I unplug the sensor the motor seems to beaking more power. Is my maf sensor junk?
 
i would certainly clean it at minimum. given your car is 16 years old there could be lots of worn out/dirty parts that could use replacing/cleaning. They're not bad enough to trigger a CEL but bad enough to affect performance.
