So my friends 02 corolla S trunk cannot be opened with key. Pulling the latch still opens the trunk fine and it closes fine. However, the keyhole from the outside is f-up. Whats that part called? I was thinking we try to find one first and see if we can install it ourselves or get someone to put it in after we fine the part.

appreciated if you can find the par #

thanks in advance.

Usually called the trunk lock cylinder it is very easy to change, as I recall all you will need is a standard screwdriver to help remove the mounting clip. And yes A Toyota dealer can get one but unless you don't mind it having a different key you will need a locksmith to rekey it to match the original.

There is normally and access hole on the inside of the trunk where you can remove the lock cylinder. On most of the Toyotas there is a metal fork that holds the cylinder in place. Simply grab the fork and pull it out releasing the lock cylinder. The cylinder has a linkage on it that needs to be removed. Getting the cylinder is easy. Getting the cylinder to match your currently car keys is going to be hard and expensive.

I know on my Toyotas and even most cars today you can't take apart the cylinder to re-key it. You might want to try special ordering it to fit your keys if your that anal (like me). Or you will have to have two keys (one for trunk, one for car).

If you go to the junk yard you might find a corolla that you can take the ignition cylinder, door lock cylinders and trunk cylinder off. But that's going to be a lot of f---- work.

It may not be worth it to go to the dealer. If you can find it aftermarket that would work great. But you might end up just having to do that and eat it. They will re-key the lock cylinder to your VIN so you don't have to bring in your keys.
