Total car noob here... My a/c clicks a bunch of times when I come to a stop and when I accelerate. Once I get going it doesn't do that. Basically the a/c is ice cold but I can't get past the clicking because it jerks the car and the rpm's keep going up and down as it clicks.

I think it's a generic problem? I need to change the oil in a few hundred miles, so what should I tell the Midas guy about my a/c?

TIA!

Is the clicking sound the sound of the compressor clutch coming on and off? If so a possible explanation could be a slipping belt. Some compressors have sensors which can sense when the compressor shaft isn't turning as fast as it should and tells the compressor clutch to cycle off to prevent any damage. I'm not sure about your particular model but if there is an adjustable idler pulley maybe adjusting it to tighten the belt up some would help, if not maybe a faulty belt tensioner could cause the belt to not be as tight as it should, therefore causing it to slip on accel and at idle. While cruising with the a/c on, does the a/c stay on the whole time and consistently blow cold air?

yeah, no matter what happens, the air is always cold, I also notice that when I set the outside air on instead of recycled air, it clicks less.
