'02 Audi a6 2.7T or '00 s4 ??

So I'm tenatively shopping for a replacement and got my choices narrowed down to
'02 Audi A6 2.7T 60K with sport pkg and 6 speed $12K
'00 Audi S4 109K 6speed... ~$8000 (needs a little suspension work)

Any thoughts or ideas? The depreciation on the s4 will be a lot less than the a6, since it already roll 100K miles...

The 2.7TT is not known as the most reliable of a motor due to turbo issues.

The '00 is 8+yrs old, unless its a project car and you have a relaible DD I would forego the purchase of a high mileage VW/Audi due to all of there known issues.

The A6 from '02 is not a good looking automobile. but I'd go with this over the S4 due to mileage concerns.

I wouldn't even consider the S4 if the turbos haven't been replaced. It's a cramped engine bay with poor cooling and the stock K03 turbos almost always die, it's just a question of when, and in most cases they're replaced with cheaper and more reliable K04s. The A6, although susceptible to the same problem has most likely not been abused nearly as much, and it's got a significantly larger engine bay resulting in better cooling. Regardless, for either car, if the turbos haven't been replaced I hope you've got $3k in the bank as replacing them will requiring pulling the engine.

Turbos will probably need to be replaced on a 2000 S4 with that many miles.

Labor on an Audi = $$$.

The block it self is solid (cast iron) and can handle a lot of boost.

I'd only look into the S4 if you already had planned on swapping out the turbos for larger, more reliable K04s.

Just because you can afford to shell out $8,000 doesn't mean you can afford to maintain one. The 04 V8 S4's are much more realiable since they're no turbos but more money.....

The B5 S4 is the only car I know of that one can boost power output by 150%+ and have the car be more reliable than before. 😛
