0% on my research paper

This is not college, it's high school (senior)

We have different parts for our research paper grading rubric, and the first part was a preliminary research assignment. We had to find sources, cite them, and write note cards on specific quotes in the cited sources and stuff.

Needless to say, I turned in my assignment on time (last period of the day on the due date). The librarian (person who grades this preliminary research) wasn't there, so her assistant offered to take it and put it into her mailbox.

I found out from my teacher that the librarian gave me a 0% for not turning in my work. Fair enough, maybe she lost it or something.

I walk into her office, and the moment I walk in, she doesn't listen to me and just talks about how irresponsible my behavior was for not turning in my work. I find this incredibly uncalled for since she's like 35 years older than me and a "professional." I tried to tell her that I gave her assistant my assignment and that she could ask him to attest to me giving the work on time, but she said that she gets "everything that is put into her mailbox." So I start getting sarcastic with her because she clearly doesn't want to negotiate and only wants to criticize me for being irresponsible.

Now, I just walk out of her office in her face because I want to prove a point that if she's not going to listen to my valid point (not even said in a sarcastic manner), then I'm not going to listen to her points.

I walk to the library where her assistant is (she's in the meantime following behind me probably whispering more comments about me) and I ask him WHILE the librarian woman is listening: "Do you remember me giving you my assignment?" He said YES.

The librarian woman says to me that she will THINK about grading my assignment. I think that this is bull but assume that she will be a professional and grade my assignment since there was undeniable proof that I turned my work in on time. Needless to say, I just got an e-mail from my teacher saying that I got a 0% on 15% of my research paper. Not only did he say that I got a 0%, he also said that "an apology to Ms. ------------------ is in order."

cliffs:
i) I turn in my assignment on the due date (still on time) - but I had to give my work
to her assistant because she wasn't there for some reason.
ii) I get called in by my teacher saying I didn't turn in my work
iii) I talk to the librarian (who grades this part of the research paper) and she begins to just attack me before listening to what I have to say
iv) The librarian says that I didn't turn in my work on time and I should get a 0%
v) I go to the library where her assistant is, and in front of me and the librarian, says that I did indeed turn in my work on time to him
vi) She STILL says that she will only THINK about grading my work
vii) I leave thinking that she will be the professional that she is and just grade it
viii) I get an e-mail from my teacher saying that the librarian gave me a 0% anyways and that I should apologize to her for behaving in a rude manner
ix) (excuse my grammar mistakes)

So the absolute highest I can get now is an 85% if I get a 100% on my research paper.... yipee...
I'm seriously considering complaining to the school about her because this was absolutely uncalled for (and 2 other students who went into the library to talk with her about their 0%'s were told off as well)

This is why you always make sure the person actually received the document the next work day.

Now you will have to go through BS just to get this "fixed".

In your apology letter, don't apologize for anything you didn't do. Just say that you are sorry that she feels the way she does, but that the truth is as follows: (laundry list the facts as bullets, attach statements from your witnesses). Give a copy to the teacher and save a copy for yourself.

#1 - Talk to the dean/principal.

#2 - I hate the word "rubric". It's the stupidest word ever.

#3 - When all else fails, get parents involved. Make the school hate you.

Xylitol,

You = right
Her = wrong

I work as a librarian and she is full of crap. Feel free to PM me her name and school so I can put her on my personal crap list (considering how small the field is, it actually does mean something).

Talk to the administration. At this point you really have little to lose.

You shouldn't have gotten sarcastic with her. In HS it's never ever worth starting an argument or being rude - they will always use that against you whether you are right or wrong in whatever case you're fighting.

Next time calmly state your side. If they won't listen, find out who they report to and talk to them, calmly. Keep going up until you get to the dean/principal. Always stay calm and rational.

Talk to the principal/vice principal/dean. They have the power to move mountains in the school, and usually will if there's any amount of evidence (if you can get the assistant to write something down saying you handed it in, that should be enough). They (almost) always take the student's side on these things.

I wouldn't wait that long if I were you.

I sent him an e-mail right now asking to meet with him after vacation (at least he knows that something's up right now)
I don't want to call him because I want to talk with him in person instead with 2 others who were unfairly treated by her as well (I also want the librarian to listen and give her comments as well)

it will be harder to win the argument by then. they are going to want to know why you didn't address it right away.

it will appear that once you got your grade you tried to think excuses as to why you should get a better one.

Plus your giving them an excuse to use the line, "if you would have come to use sooner..."

This. It's extremely important that you use the proper tone, otherwise s/he's gonna think you're a snot-nosed brat who just doesn't like deadlines. You have to sound like the victim, and the principal is your only hope.

Your a senior in HS and you haven't learned that being right does not equal being correct? In the vernacular, "Dude, it's High School!"

Talk to the principle this week. I wouldn't bother apologizing to the librarian if you can avoid it. If you have to, do it to her face and not by letter. You shouldn't put this off for three weeks either, you should take care of it now.

High school = lol.

A year from now, nobody but the jocks and over acheivers will give a shit about what happened in high school.

If you want to escalate this out of principle, then do it, but just know that the ONLY thing that matters is whether or not you have a diploma on graduation day. It will look just the same as everyone else's diploma... even the screw-offs who barely passed. If your grades were higher, you might get to hear your name over a loud speaker a few extra times.

Stop. Go to the Dean of her department. Make an appointment and explain. There's nothing else you can or should be doing than calling the department head right now (or dean of students if you must go that high). YOu may even suggest to the teacher that you're going to make an appointment with her boss to disguss the outrage unless she changes her mind and decides to grade it -and grade it fairly.

I had a teacher pull this shit in college.
