Well, I just looked at an Antec case this AM and it was $99 + ~$13 shipping. Now it's $112 with 99 cents shipping (NewEgg)

Looks like the same shipping cost to me -- only moved into the base price. I'm a regular Newegg fan, but this doesn't smell right to me.

Looking at their cheap cases, you used to be able to get a cheap case with PSU for about $15 + $15 shipping. Now the cheapest is $28.50.

So seems like this is not really hot at all, just a marketing gimmick. :(

And here I was excited!

Edit: On the other hand, it is now much easier to quickly compare prices + shipping than it was before. Used to be hard to find the cheapest case with PSU after shipping (had to skim like 10 pages to look for ones with cheap shipping and such). So even though this seems to be nothing more than a marketing gimmick, it does have its values. :)

Not to repeat what the other 2 said but i too was looking at a dynapower black widow case for my daughter last night and they were 69.50...now 79.00.The deal does make it over all 5.00 cheaper but its just the way there trying to make loyal customers think that there saving all the shipping but .99 is BS.

ditto

I saw the title and without reading just jumped to newegg thinking "woohoo time to spend a grand on toys!!"

Soon did I realize that they jacked up the prices to make up for the shipping, are they trying to insult us?

Rosewill value black case $38.50, arent they around $25 + $16 shipping normally? I might be saving something but..... ill pass

damn thats weak. the psu i just bought is 58 plus .99 as opposed to the 51.50 plus 6.99 shipping i paid. there might be a gem of a deal somewhere in there but the .99 is a joke.

I called sales and asked them to pass on to the Marketing guy that thought this up that this promo stinks and he said "so what".

Everyone should email/call them up and ask them who they think they're trying to fool.

nope, no psu for .99, the promo code wont work anymore ... and this .99 shipping is a joke, newegg was great, but now they've gone down the drain, not totally, but they've started to slip

Their prices have started to slip lately, I am trying to figure out where I want to get a new SATA drive and they aren't really best in price... and with this whole mess... I am thinking of going elsewhere

Actually, not everything was bumped up in price. The logitech ultra x keyboard was $20 + $7 shipping a day ago, and now it's $19.00 with .99 shipping. Ive been looking to get this keyboard for 20 and ordered one at newegg since ZZF has it for $39 on backorder and chief for $26 with free shipping.

I don't know if this applies to anything else, or if they just forgot to up the price on this keyboard.

looks like they dropped a bunch back or closer to pre-sale price. for instance the psu i mentioned above is down to 54.50 with .99 shipping, so it's better.

maybe they're just having trouble between the beta and regular sites.

edit--either that or they saw this thread :p

Dear Jeffrey,

Thank you for contacting Newegg.

We can certainly understand your concern regarding this matter. Due to the nature of the products that we distribute, the prices of this type of merchandise tends to fluctuate at various times. Because the price of this case has risen, and would of course be unfavorable to our customers, we are willing to take a loss on the shipping charges to better accommodate our valued customers. This change would be based on the fluctuation of pricing, our customer appreciation, and our marketing departments decision making.

At this time, I have forwarded these concerns to the appropriate parties. Rest assured, that these concerns will receive the attention that they deserve. Newegg welcomes all constructive criticism so that we may better our business practices and, in turn, ensure the complete satisfaction of each of our valued customers such as yourself.

We certainly thank you for your patience and understanding regarding this matter.

Thank you,
Adam

Yah, more shipping games. I saw that and was like "alrighty, time to buy that mATX Foxconn case I wanted for $33+1 instead of $33+13." Nope, $45+1.

Seems odd that so many people here are so excited about such small savings sometimes but here Newegg has actually reduced net prices by a small amount (shipping discounts generally are higher than increased product costs) but most people discount this as just a marketing gimmick because prices could be even lower. Overstock has done this over and over again but we're okay with it because however you cut it the price is about the same or slihgtly lower in the end.

I mean, at least they replied personally to someone's email and very quickly; most companies nearly fall over themselves trying to meet that level of customer service.

Though newegg could have just lowered shipping prices over time and increased product prices to just about make up the difference they wanted to get new customers ... and when they get more customers, the idea is, everyone will benefit from increased bulk purchasing discounts. So it's a little hyped up to get more people to get to their site, fine, just so long at they keep good customer service remain frequently compeditive (though rarely the lowest) prices, then I say go for it.

I'd prefer if this were a more permanent change, they change their prices and shipping costs so often it makes my head spin. Consistency would help, the fear of an increased price is not going to make most people decide to jump on a purchase, it will make them just as suspisious that the price will soon go down even more; some will wait, others will jump, but the total number of happy customers would be higher overall if prices were consistently low relative to compeditors. But it probably won't be their new direction since almost all feedback I've seen here and on other deal sites is pretty negative. Oh well.

That Antec case look pretty good, thanks for the link emjem.

Compare this with this. the net savings on the cheapest Antc case is $2.50. OK so if you had to have beige over black you would save $4.50 Sorry not very Hot. I'm seriously thinking of picking up one of the cheapo cases for like 30 bucks. Anyone have a favorite cheapo case?
