I spoke to a police officer he said the most they do is get a heavy duty suspension option and the obvious external and interior modifications.I wonder if they will ever consider the new mercury maurader seems like something the highway patrol would appreciate more.

Well here in NC the state troopers just got liek 150-300 Camaro Z28's. They even have a bad A$$ paid scheme to them. Balck with a Silver strip/wedge on teh side that says state trooper.

And some places are moving to the Impala police cars. I think the 0-60 is faster than a Crown Vic and it also handles as well, BUT is cheaper and gets better gas mileage.

Yeah, what notfred said. I got a 94, and it's about the same. Mileage is a bit higher on mine though, due to some TLC :D

Well, that is not really the number you want to look at. I did the Sheriff's Dept. pursuit driving course a few times and it all comes down to how well you can handle corners (at high and low speeds) and your reaction speed.

I did our course many times (not as many as our ambulance courses) but it was great. If you try to outrun a police vehicle, forget it, trust me. We are fast and know how to disable your car. (it may be a strip, or a PIT maneuver) PIT stands for pursuit intervention technich by the way. Those were some of the best driving courses I ever took.

Unless you can outrun the ol' Motorola, the 0-60 times of the cruisers themselves really don't matter that much.

Can you elaborate a bit on the 'strip' and 'PIT' techniques?
I would assume that the pursuit vehicle would have to be alongside or in front of the target vehicle.

And, no, I don't plan to outrun any Police Cruisers at my age, and in a Geo Metro! :)

The strip he is referring to is the spike strip. And I believe that the PIT maneuver is the one where a police vehicle will tap one of your rear quarter-panels while you both are moving. It causes the target vehicle to slide sideways, and the police vehicle can then sideswpipe it and bring it to a stop.

Ive seen chp and state trooper camaros.Im kinda disapointed that theyd pick the camaro.I remember seeing a v10 crown vic police car concept that was in the works in popular mechanics magazine.Ive also seen impala police cars but they are way to small and lack in power but they are more than good enough for normal patroling and other general police activitys less the chases

Ford introduced what I think is a concept Police Interceptor...03/04's are to have the detuned Cobra engine that's in the Marauder

0-60 and 1/4 miles times of police cruisers?

Not as fast as silly young people think they are... one kid once told me to NEVER run from the cops cause their crown vics are supercharged and that nothing i could buy could get away from them.. that is SO BS! haha.... aahhh idiocy.

I was reading the new Impala with police intercepter package goes 0-60 in 9.1 seconds!!! LOL! so slow!!

Hmmm, kinda disappointing numbers. But I guess they're built to be massive in order to run other cars off the road.

I'd think that they'd differ somewhat from year to year and also from location to location. Also I bet that some departments would buy different engines for the Camaros.

I've seen a Texas DPS trooper in a 5.0 mustang

It must ahve been a older Camaro then, GM stopped making the LT1 a long time ago. If you order a Camaro and get the police package it is basicly a stripped down Z28 (LS1, 4 speed auto, etc..)

I looked under the hood of a Cop Z28 and it was all LS1. The cop driving it said it was the best car he ever had :)
Lets see, Crwon Vic or Camaro Z28... which one would you rather spend 8 hours in a day driving :)
