$0.02 tax on soda

Link

Heard on the news that there thinking of adding or rasing (if there is a tax on soda) .02 cents

And it will bring in about $300,000,000 for Cali because of the budget shortfall

Also to promote healty foods 🙂

i dunno if i can afford that, money will be tight around here for awhile 😀

It will serve the soda-sucking, tobacco haters right. It wouldn't bother me if they put a $2.00/bottle tax on soda. The stuff makes you fat and taxes our health care system.

That's ghey!

It's the fault of drinkers for taking excessive calories. Nowhere on the bottle does it mention "make sure you sit on your ass all day after consuming our product". Are you sure they aren't wanting to charge tax so they can spend it elsewhere? They should tax medical bills and require additional premium by the insurance holder on chronic problems developed by their fault(fatness and such).

Gopunk,

You're already paying it (unless you don't drink pop). Washington State passed it years ago.

Yet another attempt by the Liberals to protect us from ourselves. This time it has the added bonus increasing taxes and they LOVE that to.......bet they are all sitting in a Starbucks congratulating themselves over how smart they are and how they know what is best for all of us.

really? i guess the stores just lowered their prices to keep the consumer's cost the same then (which is what i think will happen if this thing passes).

and yea, i don't really drink that much pop, except at work. i mostly drink juice, milk, and water.

It is not pop, it is soda.😉

Is there any instance of obesity that isn't the fault of themselve? If you simply take equal or less calorie than you use, you shouldn't gain weight nor will you suffer malnutrition, starvation etc.

Anyways, it's about time for me to have a second Coke of the day. Coca-Cola float to be more exact. Coca-cola classic and a scoop of Breyer French Vanilla icecream 😀😀😀😀

Soda is a mixer for scotch.

No, they didn't. Of course, when it passed here you were still suckling at mama's teat, so you wouldn't remember.

yea that would do the trick... but seriously, do you think we'll see the vending machines be 1.02 and 57 cents? i doubt it...

To those who said the slippery slope didn't exist: nenner neener nenner.

Folks, this is what you get when you have socialist policies. The nanny states gets to tell you what is, and isn't good for you and will attempt everything they can to socially engineer your actions through taxes, regulations, or outright bans. They derive the right to do this with the excuse of "your actions cost society money, therefore we can tax this and ban that for society's protection." And if that doesn't work some ninny always screams, "Wont somebody please think of the children!!"

Wait until they get to YOUR favorite food, hobby, or pleasure.

It WILL get worse before it gets better.

To those who say "it's only $.02", well, that's how your freedoms are taken from you without bloody revolution: One freedom, and 2c at a time. THAT, my friends is the slippery slope, and we are heading very slowly down it with no end in sight.

Yeah, gasoline sations did the same everytime gas taxes went up...

No, wait.

Gopunk, you are seriously out of touch if you think businesses eat taxes. We never do. We ALWAYS pass them directly on to the consumer.

Nope, they'll up them by 5 cents increments at vending machines.

Of course, vending machines have a much larger profit margin than grocery stores.

No, you'll likely see the vending machines charging $1.25 for a bottle. They did that here on campus at ND. Totally dumb idea. I rarely buy pop out of the machines now they raised the prices. It is just so annoying to have to feed the machine two one dollar bills.

Socialism IS a four letter word, and a centralized government CAN exist with minimal socialism, BBWF. Ever read our Constitution? The more socialism a country has, the fewer freedoms the individuals enjoy. Period. And THIS very topic is proof positive.

As for the poor, please point out one case of a person starving to death in the US between 1940 and 1965. You can't. In case you need a history lesson 65 was the year Johnson passed his "Great Society" farce and created the Welfare State as we know it today. Guess what? Not ONE SINGLE GOAL of the "Great Society" plan has been acheived, even though trillions of dollars have gone towards it. In fact, private charities were doing a much better job at helping people down on their luck than our government has done since.

BBWF, I am not against helping people who need it. I am against have a large and inefficient government force people to do it.

Hey, I don't go to Starbucks 😉 My last pop was on May, 14 1999. Kind of like a person off of the bottle for a while. LOL

wow, you remember the exact date... do you remember what you had?

and for some reason down south we refer to all carbonated soft drinks as "coke." i could say, "i need a coke," and go buy a mountain dew. which is almost as opposite coke you can get and remain in the soft drink category.

No, yet another example how the working class has to pay for the rich. They need the money becasue of the unexpected buget shortfall due to the failed de-regulation of energy monopolies who are ripping Ca a new one. Electricity prices have tripled and these guys are smiling all the way to the bank. Meanwhile soda joe has to pick up the tab.

Bullsh!t and you know it. You REALLY need to stop denying reality, Carbon.

<<WASHINGTON - Health advocates at the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) and Yale University recommended in a paper in the June issue of the American Journal of Public Health that soft drinks and snack foods be taxed to provide funding for nutrition and health campaigns.>>
