Ive decided to upgrade my old P3 with my old motherboard that lacks an aGP port, so given my limited 200dlls budget and my preference for Ati products, i cant decide wich is better. I know the 9500 has 8 pipelines and the 9600 onlly four but it runs at higher speeds...
any comments???

9500pro is faster on most benchmarks I've seen by a fair amount. 9600pro doesn't produce as much heat and thus has a quieter cooling system.

I think I'm going to order the 9500pro today and get a Zalman Heatpipe for it so there is no fan (and thus no noise)

Check out Anandtech's review on 9600pro. It seems that 9500pro trumps the card at stock speeds. 8 pipes vs 4 pipes is BIG difference. If I were you, I would go for 9500pro. From what I've heard, the 9500pro OCs somewhat decently and will catch the 9600pro in the OC competetion. 8 pipes will definitely be more essential in performance than the extra mhz. Snatch up the 9500 pro before they all dry up. I think ATI stopped making them already.

A stock speeds the consensus seems to be that the 9500pro is a little faster than the 9600pro. The 9600 overclocks better than the 9500, but the 9500 is ahead to start and can be overclocked quite well too. Both overclocked to the max essentially produced a tie between the cards. See ?

get the 9500pro man, dont forget 9500pro CAN overclock too! Not fair to compare a Overclocked 9600 against a default setting of 9500pro.

Plus O/C will very much shorten your video card life.
