¿How hot is too hot?

I recently bought a Celeron 400 off ebay. It came with a large passive heatsink and to my surprise it has run without problems for 7 days straight. In a closed case with only the power supply as fan.

The Celeron dissipates 24W of heat. (400 floats around 53C running Seti)

A lot of P3s actually dissipate a lot less than that.

Would it be possible to run other processors fanless then?

Which processors? I have seen fanless P3 450/500s before. Non-Overclocked K6-2s with massive heatsyncs could probbably run fanless. Any Penitum or pre-pentium processor can run fanless. Via C3 (even though they are a waste of silicon) are designed to run fanless (at least some). Most mobile processors if slaped in a desktop enviroment could run fanless.

its not really a wise choice running anything fanless dude, just get a silent fan or something...
