Solaris is Sun's high-end unix that runs on their UltraSparc (and Sparc which is only 32-bit, not sure if Solaris 9 supports them though) platform. Solaris is known for good high scalability (hundreds of processors and tens or hundreds of gigs of memory) but sucks on single processor boxes.
BeOS was a good idea with good implementation but little or no marketing. It's the poster child for the fact that it takes a lot more than just good technology to actually take off. BeOS Inc. went under and sold what was left off to Palm, and I highly doubt Palm will do anything other than strip it for parts.
