A fairly new adblocker for multiple browsers(but the only one that matters is Firefox :^P ). It uses far fewer resources than Adblock+/Edge, and seems to work well from my testing so far. Advanced features are little more cumbersome, but they aren't necessary for basic operation. It's especially good for weak machines. GPL3+

I recommend the Github page. He's developing fast, and new versions get released much quicker there than on Mozilla, but of course you'll have to update yourself.

Great suggestion. Adblock is an absolute must have for everyday browsing and work alike, but it does have a serious impact on RAM usage and, to a lesser extent, in performance.

I'll do some benchmarks later, hopefully, and report back.

Hmm... I installed from Github on Iceweasel37, but I also have compatibility checking disabled. It should work on the stable branch unless you're using a fork of Firefox. I think I read it doesn't work in PaleMoon, but I can't check that myself.

Oh, yea. It doesn't work on Android. If you aren't rooted, Bluehell is pretty good on Android. If you have root, nothing beats Adaway.

Been using µBlock for a while now and I have to say I'm glad I found it and dumped AdBlock. Get pretty much the same excellent results I was getting with Adblock + the FanBoy Ultimate list without the RAM and performance hit.

I've seen a lot of people complaining about memory usage, especially with Chrome, but I've had many tabs open on my 4GB notebook with no pagefile and still no issues. uBlock helps. As does not running any other extensions.

a week or two ago kaspersky flagged it as a trojan. i turned it off until there was an update...id rather have a trojan than browse the web with ads. my god. i have used an adblocker for so long i had forgotten what it was like.

How do guys manage to stop AdAway interfering with new websites? Every time I use it it keeps adding the sponsored links, or some webpages under its host list. It becomes extremely annoying to keep adding sites in Whitelist.

The only way memory should be a problem is if you run into this bug[1]. It FINALLY looks like that got to the bottom of that issue so hopefully a fix should be coming fairly soon. If you don't actively click on the uBlock button you shouldn't run into any memory issues and it should certainly use less than ABP.

I think I read it doesn't work in PaleMoon, but I can't check that myself.

I'm not sure if it does. The support ticket[2] hints that everything probably works except the taskbar icon? I'm really not sure...

I also just wrote a post about this in the browser thread[3] without noticing this thread. I've used uBlock for quite some time now (along with uMatrix) and I really like it. I do recommend dynamic filtering[4] if you're somehow turned off by NoScript or want to try a possibly more intuitive approach to it. You can get pretty good coverage just by blocking all 3rd-party scripts and iframes.

I've never had an issue with it blocking desired content, and I run more aggressive lists than stock. Of course I consider most social media spy/crapware, and my lists do block some of their malicious functionality, so my use case may not be the same as yours.

I'd try it if it worked with Palemoon. I'm used to its interface and don't feel like switching to another build of FF.

I use Chrome sparingly, so added ublock there instead of ABP. Seems faster on my ancient computer than ABP was...seemed like I was always seeing "waiting for adblock plus" in the status bar when loading a page. Will continue with the trial run there before using in FF. I use an old version of FF as my main browser and still use ABP there.

On my HP Stream mini running Windows 8.1 [with Bing], I've got the latest FF installed along with the uBlock xpi. Seems to run really nice considering this little box only has 2GB of RAM.

Even when viewing YouTube videos I know would spawn ads at the beginning of any video the uBlock xpi seemed to filter them out. Me likey uBlock.

Adblock is selling white list access.
That means, if you pay them, and you use ads that the adblock guys don't think are that bad, they will add you to the white list, and you will see these ads.
There is an opt out, but, it is off by default.

His benches are for the Chrome build which 1.8.10 is current. Chrom* was the first and primary target for his addon. The other browsers came later.

µBlock is working good here with the default settings. Maybe now I won't have to avoid messy ad filled sites completely. Thanks for the suggestion :thumbsup:

Thanks for posting this. I'm going to start testing this more but for now I just did a RAM test and it looks quite good.
I wonder when it will be reviewed by Mozilla?

Firefox without adblockers - 128 MB

Firefox with ABP - 229 MB

I'm using Pale Moon so I have to use Adblock Latitude. Because the creative idiots changed the API or some crap. Now Adblock Edge won't work in Palemoon.

Actually if you install it from the git page (whatever the latest build is) it should actually work in Palemoon, you just can't access the plugin popup (so you couldn't use dynamic filtering for example)[1]. Adblocking from the filter lists would work though.

Yeah, you can disable that whitelist, even though it comes on by default.

Needless to say I have it disabled, but I respect that people have a choice.
