£150 Video card upgrade question?

I would not upgrade right now unless your vid card has failed. 5xxx will be out in 3 weeks, even if the performance disappoints it will still put downward pressure on last gen's cards. Either way, you win 🙂

I agree, but it depends on the resolution of your monitor and whether or not it will be upgraded as well. If you are playing/watching at "lower" resolutions (i.e. 720p and a little higher) and have no plans to upgrade the screen, I would go ahead and get the 4890 - it would already be overkill at those resolutions.

Edit: on second thoughts, they're right, if you can wait, wait, the 4890 et al. will likely become slightly cheaper in the near future.

I have a 24 inch monitor and game @ 1920 x 1600, I play alot of Rfactor, COD5, BF2 etc

This would be the last upgrade for this machine, until next year when I buy a completely new rig.

If you are upgrading in the next year of so I'd snag a less expensive card and dial your settings back a wee bit OR wait until the new cards come out and blow a big wadd on the best deal you can find (and move the card to your new rig).

Wait for new cards. If only upgrade every so often then don't rush on a new card when new ones are just around the bend. You will probably be able to get a 5850 around the same price range you are hunting in right now.
