i'm surprised no home automation systems include this feature....you'd think it was already covered.

This did nothing to convince me that it's better than my digital thermostats that I can set schedules on.

Because if you read further, it knows when you are not in the home and when you are.

If you are always exactly home and leave at the same times then your 'set and forget' model works fine.

If you are like many people where you may need to leave one day at 7am, but another you are home until 2pm...not so well.

While we're at it we need to "reinvent" air conditioners as a whole. They're wildly inefficient.

I think that's the wrong way. The gov has already set more efficient standards for A/C systems. What needs to be addressed is building standards. There are so many simple and cheap things that can be done to make homes more efficient. Even the quality of the installation on a ducted system can make a difference in the efficiency.

Yea, what's up with that? Why hasn't someone invented a window air conditioner that is slim profile, looks good, doesn't use much energy and is easy to install/remove?

WTF flathead screwdriver? For that money I should be getting at least a Robertson, Allen, or Torx drive.
This is from the folks that stuck with the one button mouse, what did you expect?

Anyway, cooling via swamp cooler needs no thermostat and furnaces should come with two settings, roast and broil.
