Okay basically for some reason, the initial install by UInstaller did not work properly.
I reinstalled the HDA kexts with OSX86Tools, and sound worked
I reinstalled the R1000 kext, and Bonjour worked.
Not sure what AppleSMBIOSEFI.kext does in this instance, but I'll reinstall that as well.
Got sound working through some kexts from the InsanelyMac forums located here: http://www.insanelymac.com/for...howtopic=140941&st=240
Can't seem to get my Time Capsule attached printer to work since reinstalling though. Turned off IPv6 and then it could at least see the printer on Bonjour...
Audio problem appeared after update.
Updates to 10.5.7, ran the UD3Pv10 (Full) install. Worked great, except no audio.
In the S/L/E folder I have:
LegacyHDAPlatformDriver.kext
LegacyHDAController.kext
HDAEnabler.kext
stock AppleHDA.kext
Man... that is unfair :(.
I wonder if there was a change in the Kaido method that led to this problem in later builds? Since kaido gets this problem if he uses his own onboard audio I will assume that it is not just me plus the other ALC889a thread I linked earlier specifically mentions that...
Okay... now I will definitely have to look at this in a week when I am done traveling. Could you direct me to which method you used to patch the HDA file? I will give it a shot although, sadly, I don't think I will have it done before 10.5.7 drops so it could be included in the new kaido distro...
So when you look at the console under All messages, you don't get a repeated error 1-2 x per second? I couldn't get the patched kext to work at all - it didn't see the card at all.
Tried to patch using the codec dump - hosed my audio entirely... I've included the codec dump, HDA patcher and the modified kexts in this file:
http://drop.io/8riadxx
Any chance anyone here can get a good codec dump of the UD3P alc889a chip? I tried both Mandriva and Ubuntu 8.10 and they apparently both read it defectively as an alc885. It is damn aggravating...
Good catch on that... well that is a bit of Apple dodginess - I guess that is a good sign on this install since it is behaving like it should then.
I'll have to try something else for audio to get rid of those console messages - it is just too much of a pain to try and sort out other problems...
Yeah, it isn't all that big of a deal, just weird. I wonder if it happens with Nanos or other iPods. I know it doesn't with my iPhone. I just usually leave it plugged into the computer for convenience before I go jogging or the gym...
Looks like it is a bit beyond my crap kext hacking skills. Apparently the error results from the digital input nodeID not being entered. Actually looks like if someone with a lot more skills attacked the problem the UD3P audio could be fully functional without errors cluttering up the console...
What exactly is wrong with the 889a right now? It's what I have on my Hack (GA-P35-DS3R) and it works fine (Stereo Out and Mic In, at least) after using the AppleHDAPatcher along with a codec dump.
Open your console and look at all messages... are you getting something similar to this...
Been paging through the mentioned thread, and it seems very promising - e.g. the console error is apparently related to the digital output setting. Seems like it should be possible to dump the USB sound device and get the ALC889a working. I will do some experimenting and report back.
After testing a couple of combinations, it seems to be the shuffle for me. If I boot while the shuffle is plugged into its dock, I get the dark display for about 3-5 minutes before it gives up and goes to the login screen.
Hooray! Black screen problem determined!
So, if I unplug my iPod shuffle and iPhone, there is no black screen before the login window appears. This console log shows when my iPod is plugged in, at about 1:08 there is an error in the log, then the black screen stays for about 3-4 minutes...
Okay... here is my full system as it stands right now:
Hardware:
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P Rev 1.1 Bios F9
CPU - Intel E5200 Wolfdale 2.5GHz
RAM - 2 x Transcend JM800QLU-2G R
Video Card - Sparkle SX95GT1024D2-3D 9500GT
Case - Rosewill TU-155 II with power supply and extra...
Other behavior that is a bit odd is that iTunes hangs post sleep invariably with a completely unkillable process. Usually hoses the iTunes library file too.
Other than those couple of things, seems to be pretty stable.
When booting, after the grey apple screen, the display goes dark, the mouse cursor appears eventually and if i move the mouse it will go to the login screen. This is new behavior and I am not sure if it is related to me doing the Time Machine fix with UInstaller....
Got my system working... will post specs in a bit. Tried to comment on the wiki without luck:
Videocards:
Card: SPARKLE SX95GT1024D2-3D 9500GT
Driver: EFI String (8600GT 1GB)
Details: Apparently the 8600GT, 9500GT and 120 are all the same card pretty much. I am not sure if the DisplayPort...
Was sorta holding out on the promise of a revised guide... But yeah, I suppose I'll just start plowing through the thread. Still waiting on SATA drive from Newegg, which will probably arrive too late to do me any good.
Well... at least sticking it on the unused EFI partition has the advantage of not having a USB key sticking out of your computer... And, for those things that need a bit of tweaking (i.e. those people who don't own the Kaido reference system), it has advantages of being a bit more upgrade proof...
Revising list to remove case bling for $$$...Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P motherboard
